6.5-300: H1000 or 8133 loads for 127LRX (or similar mono)?

H869 worked out GREAT with my buddy's Vanguard 6.5 Bee. 3425 fps and under 3/4"! It s just a matterof what the barrel likes. Mine hated it.

Just bought the weatherby 6.5 300 vanguard accumark with the number 3 26 inch fluted stainless barrel. Also found 7 boxes of weatherby 140 grain ammo for 20.00 a box that they were closing out and bought all 7 boxes. I didn't care for the 140s so I pulled one apart and found what looked like 88.5 grains of us869. That seem right for the load data on the weatherby sight. I put a 130 grain berger vld target bullet back in and tested it and all looked good so I loaded a box with 130s and went out. The weatherby article show sight in at 300 yards so that what I did. I did shoot 20 rounds before with the 140s to break in the barrel. The first 3 shots were 1.5 inch group at 300. I thought that must have been a freaky lucky group. It was a clean barrel. So I shot the second group and it drop to just a little under 1 inch and the third group was 3/4 inch at 300 yard.
Now the barrels hot enough to fry a egg so i stopped. Seeing that the barrel will not hold up to this the next time out I shot 1 let it cool, shot 1 let it cool, then shot the 3rd. The group had 2 almost in the same hole and one 3/4 inch away then let it cool and shot a 5 inch group a 1000 using 4mils of elevation.
Not sure if this help you out. My rifle is only going to be used for varmints and not a plinker. Good luke!

I have a 6.5-300 with about 500 rounds thru it now. The bigger chunk of that was load development. I tried 2 lbs of us869 because its sposed to be the fastest by far. But my gun doesnt like it.
H1000 and imr 7977 with a 120 GMX were pretty accurate but slow at 3300 with 76 and 77 grains if memory serves. Worked up from 72. Thats in my vanguards 26"
Interesting to me, my 257wby load with 117s was 72.5 of 7977. Its just a lil quick for the big case i guess.

Anyhoo the load i settled on and have tested to 1080 is 88gr Ramshot LRT with the 127 lrx at 3.500. Groups hover around .5 at 100 and it hold it to way out past where i would actually will use it on animals. 3380 fps. Doesnt seem to be temp sensitive in my normal range 90 or lil more down to 30s is all ive tested it in.

I have a 6.5-300 in the works and I have had a 7mm-300 WBY for 30 years. (Not a 7mm Wby) I talked with Howard Wolfe (7-300 developer) and when I start testing the 6.5 I'm going to take his advice. I noticed some posts saying you had good groups at 100 but farther out you had a shotgun pattern. Howard highly recommended not testing at 100 yards he stated 200 minimum. With these two rifles and speeds that shoot a lot of bullets are not stabilized at 100. I actually do all testing at 200 for all of my rifles and I save time and barrel life IMO by shooting fewer 3/4" or less groups at 100 only to find out at 300 it's 4" or more. Just a suggestion for when you start your load testing to hopefully save your shoulder and barrel.

Hey, I have the 6.5x300 in the MK V ultralight, I played with 869 for a while. 92 gr got me to 3540 avg, but the best group for 3 shots was 1.138 in. with the 127 LRX. Finally got some 8133 and this is my load, 80 grs of 8133; Fed 215GM, WBY case, 127 LRX, OL using a hornady comp is 4.123; vel 3455, SD 5, 3 shot group avg .6. Shot a caribou with this load this year, gun zero'd at 200. Held slightly above center, bou at 350, never even took another step. Friend wounded his, at about 400 yard I put the horz wire on top of the head, bullet went through the eye. It's a pretty flat shooter!

Do you have an OAL without the comparator attached to the Calipers?

Hey smokey3, the length is 3.708, I forgot that my cartridges are also crimped using a Lee crimping die. Good luck it's one awesome round.
Rick

Hey SBMAG, I have a Lee crimping die and I set it so I can just see the four small indents the die makes in the case mouth. I'm not really sure how to describe it better? I've read that Butter Bean has a system, but I haven't really read his method. I obviously need to. I hope this helps. Take Care, Rick

Hey everybody, no 6.5-300 experience but do have 8133 and h1000 experience. I vote h1000 for consistency reasons. It has given me lower sd and es numbers. It has not been as different lot to lot as the enduron powders. It is much less temperature sensitive. Imr 8133 is marketed as insensitive and it's not wrong, it's less sensitive than the original imr powders or alliant. But
The load I worked up in October of last year gave me a slightly stiff bolt lift in august this summer. Nothing crazy but not what I like to see either.
8133 will probably get you another 100 FPS or maybe even a tad more at equal pressure. But to me if I ever have to choose between 100 extra FPS or superior consistency and stability that's a super easy decision to make.
