338 Lapua Imp. 40 degree Loads

I'm curious to see how this one shoots. I have not had a great deal of luck with any carbon barrels but I'm gonna give it a go.

The only one I have with a carbon barrel is a 6.5x284 norma and it always has shot good with every barrel I've had so far

Yup just a hair longer than the 300gr Bergers and dang near the same bc but 50gr lighter... Just an idea...

Call them first the shelves have been bare lately before all this stuff I used to show off and send pictures of the powder Isle and the bullet Isle completely full with pretty much anything you could want boy how times are a changing

I know that you are running an improved version but the Ramshot 338 lapua info is pretty interesting. Looks like LRT might be the ticket in an improved case pushing 300's

I have 2 338 Lapua improved one is 30" Bart 9.3 twist shoots 285m at 3100 in to tiny little group's I tried n570 rl33 and h1000. H1000 out ran the other powders both n570 and rl33 ran out of case capacity in that barrel. The other is a 24" proof 9.4 twist shooting 213 hammer hunter's
At 3150 I struggled to get speed out of the proof it pressured out quick. But it was plenty fast enough to kill my elk this past fall

I'm really looking forward to getting into this rifle. I like the 285 a lot for hunting and with a 28"tube I would think I could get a little north of 3k

Recipe for my 338 Allen Xpress (Improved Lapua) with 26" barrel: 300 gr. Bergers over 102 gr. of RL33 for ave. 2,975 fps.

LOL, I have two also. One is a 30 in Krieger. I shoot 300 Bergers at a little over 3000 with 106.5 RE33- still working on a load. The other is a 24 in proof shooting 270 ELD-X at 2950. 342 in bull at 325 yards.

@backyardsniper I've ran the 285 ELD & reloader 33 in 4 338 lapua Ai's now. We use proof 9.4 twist 26 inch barrels.

All 4 topped out on pressure right at or around 110.5 grains of reloader 33.

After barrels have fully sped up they run right around 3100 FPS.

Be sure to work up low (I start at 106 grains of reloader 33 for ladders then work up to pressure) measuring for .001 case growth at web, once that is found I back off 1 full grain.




I should also note i strongly suggest running FGM215 magnum primers, the CCI's have shown unstable ignition with powder above 105 grains.

@Marine sniper how did that ELDX hold together? I have really contemplated moving to the 270 gr. with the improved case 3100 - 3200 is attainable.

I'm gonna try that 285 RL 33 combo for sure. Probably gonna head to the range and form some brass right now. Your load data sounds spot on. The guy I bought it from said he was running 107.5 of RL33 with a 300 berger and getting 3K. I'm gonna start at about 106 with RL33 and work up towards the 108-110 range. Mine is a 28" 1/9.4 proof so hopefully I can close in on 3100fps.
