What twist rate would you guys recommend for the big 300 grn horse pills? 1:10"????

Thanks

Yes they use 10 twist. When the bullet speed passes 3200fps (300MK) then you can go to 11" but 10 will work across the spectrum.

Sierra recomends a 10 twist for this bullet.

i've heard of a couple competition shooters that are using an 11.5 and not shooting them all that fast. for any hunting gun that has an edge chambering,a 10 will probably serve you best.

I use 1-10s in all my big 338s as well. I have never seen a problem with accuracy from the 338 Win Mag up to the 338 AM.

In some instances there may be some more appropriate twist rates but as of yet with this range of chamberings I have not found one.

Ok what is a 338 Edge? and Kirby what parent case are you using for your AM's?

Its a 300 RUM case necked up to hold 338 boolets. The 300 RUM holds more powder than the 338 RUM.

Maico,

257 and 6.5mm AMs are based on the 338 RUM case

270 AM is based on the 7mm or 300 RUM case

277 and 7mm AM and 300 AX are based on the 338 Lapua case

300 and 338 AM and 50 AT are based on the 408 CT

510 AM is based on the 50 BMG.

Thanks Guys for the info. Just wasn't sure if something new had slipped in on me. I done a 8mm AI on a 300um case that is a smoker. The guy I built it for is all smiles.

I forgot to ask...What kind of velocity are they getting out of the EDGE and the 338AM ?

338 Edge 30" tube 2850-2950 fps depending on load and individual rifle.
338 Allen Mag 32" barrel 3300-3350 fps, I believe Kirby was running in the 3500 range with his 40" tube. The Allen is on a whole different plant compared to the Edge. There are cost issues, increased weight (all though not much), and reloading costs, but if you want the ultimate, period, look no futher.
All with 300 gr SMK's
