Anyone have a good load for .308? I'm shooting a Remington 700 AAC-SD with a 20" barrel.I've that RL15 is a good powder for this caliber.

Loads that work great in my R700 tactical 20" barrel

168 A-Max, 45.8 varget, winchester case and primer OAL 2.825 = 2674fps

175 SMK, 44.5 varget, winchester case and primer OAL 2.825 = 2550fps

At 100y the 175 smk load almost always holds 1/2 moa, if it doesnt I know its something I did... and it works well for two other 20" tactical owners that I know of.

Held .5 mil wind. 5 shots 8" spread counting the one I knew I pulled low, 4 were less than 5". Not bad for a factory Remington Tactical and 10x nikon... 700 yards.

Just worked up the A-max load and it is looking like another contender.

Forgot my hunting load: 168 berger vld, 45.8 varget, Lapua brass, winchester primer, OAL 2.815 = 2640fps
Took a mule deer this past season at 175 yards and it worked perfect. It doesn't shoot quite as tight as the 175 but still good at ~1/2-3/4 moa at 100y, and I have taken it out as far as 1000 on steel.

Rem VLS shoots sub-min Win cases, 175 SMK, 210M and 45gr Varget......
Fed cases , 180 btsp Speer, 210M, and RL-17 47.5 comes out at 2742 on a 22 in barrel. The RL-17 is on the Alliant web site others are using it with Hornady 208gr bullets with a 1/12 twist as well..Snipershide is where I found it and Montana Marine did the testing with a 20.5 lenght barrel........May want to give it a look.....
Fed cases 168 nos, 210M, and 44.5 Varget shoots wll in several rifles.
Lapua cases 180 Balistic Tip 43.5 RL- 15 and 210M
Hope this helps you out.......

42.2-8208-168 smk @ 2.825, with cci 200, rem brass, f/l resized. Also have had great accuracy with all the same load specs, except using 175 SMK. quarter inch groups are common. Have not chronoed this load yet, but is probably about 2650 - 2700.

43.6 grs of RL 15 and 168 smk shooting sub 1/2 moa at 100. Oal is 2.81 kissing the lands in a savage flcp-k 24" tube

Hey Guys:
Thanks for all the great information. I'll be trying some of them this weekend. I'll let you know how they work out.

FYI... A little heads up. Widners Shooting Supply has bulk 308 once fired Military brass in mixed headstamps on sale in 1000 lots. They have crimped in primers (typical mil brass) so you'll have to pop the spent primers and ream the pockets (no biggie).

I buy my 308 and 223 from them.

Last lot I got (2000 cases), I had exactly 8 with crimped case mouths in 223/5.56

Take a look at their choices in projectiles. They offer bulk bullets in many calibers from different manufacturers in 1000 and larger lots.

They also offer reduced pricing for C&R license holders.

The downside is to buy from them, you have to register by fax or mail with documentation (drivers license for retail sales and of course a copy of your C&R to get the reduced pricing or buy C&R weapons).....

Good folks to deal with.....
