I am looking to build a 300 wm on a 700 action for hunting and shooting from 800 to 1200 yds. I am using a Douglas air guage barrel . What size barrel any suggestions ?thanks in advance

patrick021,
I am partial to the Varmint/Sendero profile barrels, or .820-.875" at the muzzle. A lot of barrel makers usually list one of these two profiles. Barrel length would be 26-28" and I would include a muzzle brake.

Not totally necessary but mine makes recoil of the 200+grain pills very tolerable (.30-06 level), and this, IMO, is where/when the .300WinMag becomes a viable LR cartridge. The 180, 190gn are good, quick killers but the 208, 210, 215gn pills put the smack down and make the trip much more efficient.

Really depends what you are doing with the rifle. I opted for a #3 BRUX on my 300WM. With a NF SHV 5-20x56 it finishes at 10 lb 2 oz. Shoots like a dream. As mentioned put a brake on it and shoot 200 gr plus bullets. I would recommend you get a 1-10 twist and shoot the 215 Berger with H1000.
