After piecing it together for 6 months, it's finally complete. It started as a base Remington 700 SPS, ADL, 300 RUM. On a pretty small budget I put a Bell & Carlson medalist weatherby style stock on it, black with red webbing. I dropped in a BDL conversion kit so it will hold an extra round in the mag over the ADL. I installed a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 SFP MOA scope on it with Nightforce Rings and a Nightforce 20 MOA base. Also I installed a wheeler anti-cant level on the scope as well as a plastic KRG Bolt Lift. I installed the scope today and am chomping at the bit to go do some load development tomorrow. I'm gonna work up a load with 210 gr Berger VLDs with Nosler Custom Brass, Federal 215 primers, and anywhere from 90-94 gr of retumbo, hopefully. I put this rifle together for a lightweight, yet capable long range rifle for the grueling high country elk, sheep, and bear hunts here In Montana. It weighs in at 10.2 lbs with the bipod, light enough for me. Any opinions on how to further this rifles performance are welcome. I'll post pictures of hopefully a successful load development tomorrow. Thanks!

Nice job on the rifle. I would start with 87g of the Retumbo. 2-87...2-88...2-89. If no presure 1-90...1-90.5...1-91 ect. If you can do it all over a chrono. If you can get from 3050fps to 3150fps and es&sd are low you are good to go. Those speeds with that bullet will get you WAY down town. If you don't push the hell out of it the barrel will last a while. But on a hunting rifle's potential round count that usually isn't an issue. Best of luck. My 300RUM really likes 230 Berger Hybreds 89.5 Retumbo at 3000 with an sd of 6. out of a 27.5" HV match barrel.

Thanks a lot Armored. I'll make some rounds and give it a shot. It's hard to not worry about speed with a 300 RUM but like any rifle, accuracy is the key. I'll post pictures after I shoot this afternoon, my brother and I have been planning on going trout fishing for months on the Missouri so that's gonna take up my morning. Bittersweet but I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for the info!

I use H1000 as well. Fairly mild load at 2985 fps with 215 hybrids. Shot so good, there was no need to go for extra speed.

Nice setup, looks eerily similar to one of mine :D Only other things I would suggest is potentially changing out the trigger to a jewel or timney nd bedding the recoil lug. I took a 300 RUM in SPS, put a B&C stock on it, bedded it, and put a Timney on it and it is a 1/2 MOA gun. Lightweight and cheap :D

I'm shooting the same bullet in the same brass with the same primer but using RL-33 which I've found to be pretty good in my Savage Model 114 300 RUM (and lots of other big cases). Check out the attached target for load details. I've got room to go faster but with that kind of accuracy I just left it alone. However temp stability may be only fair as velocities ran around 3,000 fps at 45 degrees the day I shot that target. That velocity bumped up to 3,066 fps two days ago at 60 degrees but that didn't seem to effect accuracy. I was with a friend working to improve his rifles and before he shot his I wanted him to see what a tuned up rig could do so I put on dot on a target about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. The dot was 1.3 inches above my intended point of aim (rifle zeroed for 200 yards). I stuck the target at 100 yards and proceeded to take out the dot with 1 shot. This guy is happy if he can hit a paper plate at that range so he was impressed (hell, I was impressed). Anyway, give RL-33 a try and see if your 300 likes it along with those Bergers.

Thanks for all your input gentlemen, but I can't ignore this load. Hard to believe that's 3 shots at 100 yards but it is. 90.5 gr of retumbo did it seated at 3.620" if I remember correctly. Pretty mild load but I'm amazed at this accuracy. With 91, 91.5, and 92 grains I got all about 1.5 to 2 MOA groups. Thanks for your help. After sighting in, even with a lead sled, I feel like a brake is rather necessary as mentioned. She is pretty rude.

When we first got the gun and were getting it zero'd in, we kept blowing the plastic pieces off of the chronograph. Not too mention we all had sore shoulders.

Looks like you found something it likes - 210 Bergers and Retumbo.

Check out the attached picture of my baby. You see that funny looking silver thing with the four slots out on the end of the barrel? If that wasn't there I wouldn't be pulling the trigger. Definitely put a brake on that thing. The one pictured is a 4-port Muscle brake. Good value and it makes the gun a pussycat.

That is a great group you shot but I would suggest the next time that you stretch out to 200 yards or more so you can see better what it is doing.

What velocity were those loads running do you figure?
