300 blk 125gr sst load help

Every hammer I have loaded is under .5" groups from starting pod to end. Lots of one hole groups. I actually was letting Steve know what issues we have with the blk. And he built the Bullets around that.
It's flat based and doesn't have the big plastic tip like raptors. That allows me to seat them out farther for more powder. Which I needed. I stopped just before it was compressed with no pressure.
The way I look at the price is how many are you really gonna use when hunting? Chances are you will spend more money on beer or other random stuff. When hunting I want the best bullet possible. I wouldn't use them for range work but for hunting it would be tough to go through more than 50 rounds a season.

Sorry, didn't say what these were. They're the 150 gold dot black.

What type of FPS are you getting. My issue with heavier stuff In the blk was drop. And lots of it. With the 100gr going 2550 I'm able to zero at 50 and hold the top of the back of a deer at 200 and be good. Then even those start to drop bc fast. That's with a 16" barrel

Out of my 7.5" pistol I am getting a little over 1850 with a pretty full case of CFE BLK.

True on the price point. I like to shoot it a lot and so does my girlfriend so we may sit in a shoot 50 a weekend so that's my plan with sst. If they don't group three shots touching I won't use them and will start to move up in price which is fine as long as it shoots good. I was getting full mushroom with 125 gr nosler at 100 yards running 17.9 grains of w296 and match primers out of a 16" ruger ranch. Just picking some other heads before I decide what I'll use

I know that this is a long range forum first and foremost, however im wondering if anyone has experience with the 300 blk. it will be used in a bolt action ruger m77 with a shilen extra heavy target barrel of 20''. i had previous luck with nosler 125 gr bt out of a ruger ranch, with the sst being half the cost i figured id give it a shot. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.
I've had success with Hornady 125g SST bullets (# 3019) in 300BLK. Remember to flare the case necks for this flat base bullet. It has a cannelure, and I seat for the cannelure to be just visible at the edge of the case neck with cases trimmed to 1.358". My rifle is a PWS piston AR, 1:8 RH twist, 16.5" barrel, with a Surefire SOCOM Flash Hider. My favorite load for that 125g SST bullet is 20.0g of Lil'Gun seated to 2.100" COL producing 2208 fps. I have also had good results with CFE BLK seated to 2.1000" COL 19.8g giving 1820 fps, and H110 seated to 2.100" COL 18.6g giving 2162 fps. I have also used IMR4227 seated to 2.100 COL 17.6g giving giving good accuracy but anaemic velocities but good gas pressure 2095 fps and very good less than 1/2 MOA accuracy (using a 24x Weaver scope while testing for accuracy at 100m). you will likely get another 20-22 fps per inch of additional barrel with the above powders except the Lil'Gun which seems to be maxed out at about 18 inches of barrel. I'v also tested in an 8.0" pistol barrel, with the Lil'Gun 20.0g giving 2002 fps and the IMR4227 17.6g giving 1754 fps. The 8" barrel gives less than stellar accuracy, even with the 24x test scope attached it was never better than 1 MOA and mostly at 1.5 MOA. Due to case powder capacities with the powders that I have been using/testing I believe that there is no ballistic advantage to using the 125g SST over the 150g SST and the 150 (not having a flat base) doesn't require flaring the case necks. Lil'Gun 18.0g seated at 2.127" COL gave 2032 fps and 1/2 MOA. That's a high pressure load that I worked up to very slowly but it is accurate and hasn't shown any pressure signs. I did test up to 19.0g but accuracy began to fall off after 18.0g so I stopped further testing above 19.0g. Follow usual procedures and work up to any of the loads that I have shown here. They all work the actions on my 300BLK rifle and pistol very well even when not suppressed, which is a primary goal for my testing after accuracy. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks for the good information. Hopefully get to test some loads out this weekend. I appreciate all the input from everyone on here.

In a bolt gun, I've loaded the Nosler 125 BT to nearly 2400 FPS (don't have my data handy but I think it was around 2375 fps) from a Rem 700 SPS 16.5" bbl. Accuracy has been a solid 0.5"-0.6" gun at 100 meters with this load.

I used W296 powder.

I have some load data from SSK industries for the 300 Whisper (virtually the same) which has some healthy doses of powder. A phone call with Mr JD Jones was also helpful, since SSK data is considerably hotter than book loads.

For my son's M&P15, we switched to the Barnes 110 TAC-TX bullet so we could drive it faster than the N125BT.

The Barnes 110 TAC-TX has worked better than the N125BT, at least for one deer, with better expansion, and better accuracy from the M&P15 which is limited on how hot you can load ammo.

My 300 Blk in 16" barrel, really likes H110 powder (clover leafs @50 yds using Speer 130gr jhp). As a general rule of thumb, for the 125 to 135 bullet range, look to those dense load powders for high velocity 44 Rem Mag pistol loads for excellent 300 Blk performance. For 150 gr & up, try 1680. Hope this helps.

I started using H110 for 300BLK last summer. I do like it a lot. I would say that it meters really well, but I weigh every single charge, so metering smoothness isn't really all that important to me. Nevertheless, it really does meter very well and I get good velocities with it. It does very well for me with the Hornady 110g V-MAX (#23010, 19.8g, 2316 fps), Barnes 110g TAC-TX (#30321, 20.0g, 2360 fps), Lehigh 115g Controlled Chaos (# 05308115CuSP, 19.0g, 2225 fps), Pulled Military 143g M62 Tracer (16.8g, 1935 fps), Hornady 150g FMJ (#3037, 17.2g, 2025 fps), Hornady 150g SST (#30302, 17.0g, 1991 fps), Speer 150g Grand Slam (#2026, 17.0g, 1904 fps), Hornady 165g SST (#30452 SST, 16.0g, 1855 fps), Hornady 208g A-MAX (#30732, 9.2g, 1085 fps), Sierra 220g SMK (#2240, 9.8g, 1040 fps).
Overall, I would say the H110 gives a bit more velocity than the Lil'Gun for most bullet weights and styles while needing a bit less powder (space for powder sometimes being hard to find in a 300BLK case, eh?) Usually about 100 fps faster than the Lil'Gun at the same accuracy levels. I may switch to H110 completely for 300BLK and 22 Hornet when the last of my Lil'Gun is used up.
