280 AI with Hornady 162ELD-X load data?

I just got a box of 162gr ELD-X bullets and want to load them in my 280 Ackley. I have only shot 140 and 150 grain bullets, mostly Nosler BT. They are accurate but I've shot the 143gr ELDX in my 6.5 Creedmoor and they are crazy accurate. I have always liked the Amax bullets so it makes sense to at least try these 162Eldx in my 280AI. I've got plenty of RL 17,22 and H4831sc, H4350 and some other powders. Has anyone loaded this particular round or at least the 162Amax? Any data would help, thank you very much.

I was shooting 60 grains of RL26 with 162 eldx in 280 AI last week. Was getting 3030 fps out of 25" barrel. The groups were inconsistent. Ended up going with 160 gr. accubond, same charge was shooting under half minute at 2990 fps.

Was RL 26 the only powder that you tried? I've read several different forums that are mostly RL 22, H4831sc and IMR 7828 as well as a few others.

I've kind of looked around if anyone had and loading data also. I've been using R-17 and IMR-7828ssc with 160gr AB and IMR-7828ssc with Berger 168gr VLD bullet in my 280AI. I've been shooting 200gr ELD-X bullet in my 30-338 mag with great results.

I'm kind of hoping to get out this weekend and I'll just use work-up data that I have for the 160gr AB and see what happens.

rl 26 was the only powder I tried. heard a lot good things about it in 280 ai.

When I was working on this cartridge with the AMAX version, top honors for velocity and accuracy went to Norma MRP and VVN-560. However, H4831sc and IMR7828ssc were nearly as fast but lacking a tiny bit in accuracy by comparison.

The interesting combination though was H4350 and then H-Hybrid 100V. The 4350 ran well but the case was not completely full as you would suspect being a slightly faster powder. The 100V on the other hand, being a cooler burning powder, ran about 100 fps slower but will not erode the throat as fast as the other more active powders.

This work was all done in a very serious long range hunting version of a tactical rifle. No factory information was every tested.

I do have some Magpro powder as well. The rifle is a custom build on a trued 700 stainless action, 26" Douglas magnum contour barrel. It shoots under .5 moa with factory 140 accubonds. I load 140 BTs and want to try these 162Eldx

I didn't get out this past weekend but heading out tomorrow with 280AI and going to use R-17and IMR-7828ssc with 162gr ELD-X bullets. I'll send you PM if anything looks good,

Were you able to test 7828ssc? I would be interested in what you found.

I love my. 280 AI. It shoots one hole groups with ttsx and r-19! I just don't like the ttsx performance past 500 yards.

I have only shot 168 Berger Classic Hunters out of my 280AI with H4831SC. Accurate but not that fast at 2880 fps. Gun is a Cooper with a 24" barrel.

Best groups I've ever gotten with my 280 rem is with Hornady 162s and RL22. I'd start there

Good thread....Ive got my brass primed and ready to load 162 eld-x but haven't/can't decide on which powder. I've got most of the above mentioned powders to try. Definitely gonna keep up with this.
