22 BRX?

Anybody messed with this? Or any .224 based off the 6br case? Looking for details on a reamer, dies, barrel twist, and results.

I want to build a really short one, like 18.5", to shoot 75-90 grain bullets, depending on what gets me the speed. Would hope to get around 3200-3300 FPS. Could fold it up and keep it under the seat in the truck.

I've had several 22 Dashers, great round, hard on barrels in the PD town.

Hell on wheels for coyotes, but mine were 14 twists, 40 BT's at 4200.

Turned them all into 6 Dashers.......

I started shooting long range with a factory .220 swift and 50g vmaxs at 3900. It has been a .260 since, acting as my match rifle. now I have another match rifle and want to rebuild a varmint rifle. And the BR case is so much prettier than the .220.

I've got a 17 1/2" 223, it's an obnoxious little bass turd to shoot, I won't go less than 20" anymore.
Depending on your platform, anything on the BR case can be problematic to feed reliably. I've had two 22 Dashers, and two 6 Dashers on 700's with BDL bottom metal and never had an issue. These were calling guns, so I wouldn't put up with a problem child.

Would be on rem 700 with DBM setup, so spacers and some work to tune mags. I know several guys that shoot 6mm variants, and run them hard, so I have a lead on most of the case-caused issues.

Biggest concerns are barrel life, as I will need to fireform, reamer neck dimensions for converted 6br lapua brass and barrel twist for the heavy .224 bullets. I think I can go 7 twist and be good for anything from 60-90 grains but I have never tested that.

Target weight would be 11-12#, maybe more if it has a folding stock. I already have the action in a very basic manners t4 with m5 bottom metal.

Yup. I've shot the 22 Dasher. I can email you the reamer print if you'd like. It has a .100 Freebore specifically throated for the 80.5 Berger. Arguably the most vicious bullet I've ever used. Hope this helps

I think you'll need a bigger case to push 88s and 90s that fast in 18". My 224V holds about 30 grains of CFE, same as my 6BR. In a 24" tube I hit 2700 with the 90s. I'm not super familiar with the BRX case but I can't see it gaining you 3-500 fps with 6 inches less barrel.

But your 6br is shooting 108's well over 2800, isn't it? I have also seen the 6br shooting 80 g bullets at 3100 without much hassle. That is what made me think of a .22brx to get to 3200. Max speed likely depends on what I lose from the barrel. I chopped 3" and rechambered and lost basically nothing velocity wise. Maybe 15 FPS slower with the same load.

Do you form brass from lapua 6br? What are the neck dimensions for the reamer?

It's different when the bore gets smaller. A 223 necked up to 6mm gives impressive speeds because of the larger expansion area. You'll likely lose near 80 fps per inch from a 22 bore. Depends on the exact load but that's been my real world experience. The closer you get to the chamber velocity loss increases.

.254 neck. Fireformed Lapua brass with 28gr of 8208xbr. Accuracy was unbelievable. I set the false shoulder by raising the die 20-30 thou off of the shellholder. Jammed the bullet 20 thou.

I would think hard about a 22br or 22bra if you want to shoot 80 class bullets. If 90's are your goal I would step up to a 22x47L.

In the past I ran 16.5" barrels on all my hunting rifles. I now prefer 20-22" with a suppressor
