Remington 700 barrel swap

I think this is a fantastic idea. In fact, maybe I'll go this route with one of the Rem 700s I have lying around. I think I'd go 20" and throat for the 195 Berger. Would shoot suppressed, of course.

Then I'd throw it into a McMillan Mountain Tracker Long Range. Dang….this thread just cost me some money….New project inbound.

My 28 Nosler was my favorite until my recent 7 RUM which is running 175 ELDx at 3475 and shoots 1/4 MOA. Are you having issues with the 7 RUM shooting? Or can't get the bullet want to shoot? 28 is more efficient 10% less powder but 100 FPS slower with a +P throat

The OP doesn't reload. He or she also didn't give enough information IMO so that makes it tough to give a good suggestion. Intended use, max range, how many rounds fired per year, available ammo in the OP's area, all would of helped more. If the OP likes 28 Nosler or 300 PRC he could go with that. If he wanted to go with even more available/ cheaper ammo like a 7mm RM then I'd find someone with 7mm RM ammo or dummy rounds and see if it cycles in his stock rifle. Personally if he really loves the 7mm RUM then I'd just find a mail order vendor close to his location and order the ammo. If he wants to shoot more and chooses a smaller magnum then try the dummy rounds and if it doesn't cycle then sell the rifle and get one in the cartridge he wants.

Did you bother looking through the links I provided you in #14? Choice Ammunition alone has the following offerings for 150 and heavier:

- 195 Berger EOL
- 150 Barnes TTSX
- 168 Berger VLD
- 160 NAB
- 175 ELD-X
- 162 ELD-X
- 180 Berger VLD

Extreme Custom Ammunition has similar offerings, but greater.

HSM offers 168 and 180 VLDs.

Hands on experience with HSM, yes. I had to try it myself to make recommendation to friends. A few friends are currently using HSM, and Choice Ammunitions (7MM RM and .300 WM, etc.) and are pleased with them. I am sure there are others here, too. But as with anything, YMMV, and you need to try it with your rifle, and see how they "actually" shoot.
