Pretty sure the Great Depression and 5or 6 years of WWII, had a bit to do with slow sales of new 270 Winchester rifles. The lack of money, no civilian production and those leftover lever actions in every cartridge since 1800's. American Rifleman was it Thatcher , always great reviews, sort of never seen or read much of the AZ school teacher, over the years. Deer, Elk, Antelope, this Federal 6.5mm plus P, is pretty much a home run.I see your point, but the .270 was rejected by the public for many years. It was released in 1925 but never grew in pipulatity until decades later.
That slow growth and evaluation by the public, which was already accepting of the .30/06, had no real competition in that power range as most newer cartrisges were much smaller.
That is why it took JOC again, many years later, to market it's success using less recoil snd flatter trajrctory as the scope of marketing. His free hunts provided by his employer, also helped with that marketing as readers saw larger game fall to that lightish cartridge.
The years between 1925 and JOC's writing was likley the longest growth period for any cartridge. The lack of anything substantial being released over those decades permitted a cartridge acceptance evolution period we will never see return.
I think the key is, felt recoil. Shooters experimenting with this cartridge report no NOTICEABLE increase on felt recoil. And not just one shooter.
Not me!! ....but most others maybe....kinda...sort of..... not! No factory shell is going to give me the accuracy that I have now or at the cost I'm currently paying to roll my own! 200 fps doesn't light my world on fire.....just meFederal stated ammo cost same as other ammo.If that remains true the CM just got one heck of a technological boost in performance that I bet most will try.
Everything that I have seen and heard is that not every rifle, meaning ones that were built before a certain time in the 6.5 will be able to handle the pressure 80000P. S ISO everybody's gotta look into that for themselves. I have been doing a lot of homework on this. To see if my seven eighty three bull barrel rifle will handle the pressureWill Federal's new 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak ammo make the 6.5 Creedmoor a legitimate elk cartridge?
They will supposedly offer a 155gr Tipped Fusion at 2900 fps and a 130gr Terminal Artfnh scent at 3100 fps.
Kinda thinkN it'd be like, ur Cessna 182 plane is getting it's annual inspection and the AP offers to throw on a Turbo conversion for free, yep going to the mountains, let's try it!!Not me!! ....but most others maybe....kinda...sort of..... not! No factory shell is going to give me the accuracy that I have now or at the cost I'm currently paying to roll my own! 200 fps doesn't light my world on fire.....just me
OK, I can't argue any of that!I only hate the 6.5 creedmore because my brother in law moved from the suburbs of Chicago and decided he was going to be a hunter.
He bought a 6.5 creedmore, an ar-15 with every gadget hanging off of it, every piece of Sitka gear they make and got a membership at the local 1000 yard range. I could live with all those things and not hate the 6.5 creedmore.
But….then he started lecturing me about all the long range ballistics and how great it was for targets and hunting etc etc.
He even had the audacity to say it was better than my beloved 6.5-284. Even that was forgivable.
Then I took him hunting and he was afraid of the dark, couldn't hit a deer at 100 yards and wasn't smart enough to stop making excuses for all the dumb things he did.
So I hate the 6.5 creedmore because every time I read or hear about it I think of him and it makes me angry. The words 6.5 creedmore even makes me dislike my sister in law for marrying him and dragging him close to where I live.
He's a good example why the 6.5 creedmore has legions of loyal haters.
And yet, those who have fired the rifle with the new Peak + ammo, report no NOTICEABLE increase in felt recoil.Regardless of the pressure, if the new round has more pressure than the current creed, it must be burning more powder of some sort to generate that pressure. I dont see how the same bullet going 2-300 ft/sec faster burning more powder WONT increase recoil. I get it that the creed has small.amount of recoil to start with but physics would seem to indicate more recoil.
That's hilariously true!!I only hate the 6.5 creedmore because my brother in law moved from the suburbs of Chicago and decided he was going to be a hunter.
