7mm-08 the forgotten 6.5 Creed Killer?

I like the 7's. Had the 7 Rem Mag but let her go when I went to 280AI. Now shoot a 284 Win after I passed the 280AI to my son. Working on building a 7mm-08 now as I'm preparing for the future! LOL
I have many other rifles in 30's and 6.5/284 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
Honestly...at my age... I reach for the Creedmoor sometimes but change my mind and grab the 284 Win most of the time. Just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling of confidence!
I do still like my 6.5/284 and 308 as well.

The 7mm-08 will surprise you as, a serious, Elk or, Moose, Cartridge using, the 168 grain, H-VLD Berger's, W/ a near Max load of, StaBall !
My son is getting, 2,765 FPS out of his 22.4" Tikka with, this Load and at around 400 yards or so, IT, "catches up" to my .270 WSM for, Killing Power,.. WHO,.. KNEW ??
Yes, he has to "Dial" a few more Clicks on his Scope than, I do but, I was thoroughly impressed when, we shot, L R Steel Targets, together !
The recoil, is pretty stout, in his 7.5 Pound Rifle but, it's an, AMAZING, Hard hitting, Round with, THIS Load !
Plug 2,765 FPS and this Bullet ( .618 G-1 BC ), into Berger's "Calculator" to be, IMPRESSED with, the 500, 600, and 700 Yard Velocities and the "Retained, Energy" at, 5,500 ft. Elev. where we Hunt Elk. He shot, a Nice 5x6 Bull at 247 yards with, a 150 grain Horn ELD-X Bullet but, was NOT impressed with it's performance on that, Elk ( it took, a "Follow up" shot ) so he wanted, a New, more "Explosive" and heavier, Bullet.
I'd NEVER feel, under gunned with, the 7mm-08 IF, loaded,.. properly.

My old 788 carbine in 7-08 launching Sierra 120 flat base hunting bullets accounted for half a box worth of whitetails.

Sadly I sold that rifle. Have since found another 788 carbine 7-08 in pristine shape. Too nice to take out as hunting rifle. Have a 284 1.25 blank, I may turn it down/chamber to rebarrel one of my M1As into a 7-08.

I've got a Reamer for a 30 Degree Improved 7-08 called "7-RPC". I primarily wanted it for 162's. Just never got around to building it. A 7-08 Ackley should walk circles around the Creed shooting heavies.
Who ground the 7 RPC reamer for you? Do you have the Go gauge for it? Sounds interesting.

PT&G, & I don't recall whether or not it has gauges. It's all available from PT&G. Locate the Grady Precision via google for the 7mm GPC. It's the 7mm 30TC nobody's ever heard of. The RPC versions are improved 08 Brass cartridges. "RUM PUNCH COLONIAL"

The 708 is a great round ,mine started life as a BBR 243,no pun against the great 243 , I just wanted a 708 so I had it rebarreled with a #3 conture Lilja,cm 1/9 twist and keep it 27 inch's long , she dotes on 150"s and 160"s plus the 168 VLD's haven't tried the 180 Vlds as yet but she'll spin the 160&168's 2760 ish ,H4350 is my pixie dust ,great 1st post Idaho Lefty 👏👏👏,cheers Everyone!!!

The 7mm-08 is a great round that offers very little recoil and great ballistics within its limits. I know this is a long range hunting forum but my brother dropped this little 13 pointer dead on its tracks, using a 140 Remington Core-Lokt round at 288 yards. He first spotted him Wednesday late in the evening at around 375 yards and as he was closing the gap it just got too dark to shoot it so he opted for the following morning. Got up early next morning just before sun up and walked a mile from where he had seen him and waited for sun up, well the rest is history. I personally have been using core-lot ammo for hunt for over 50 years, just an old dog that won't change what is reliable, even if there is better ammo out there.

SO, Horndy made a target bullet and then tried to morph it into a hunting bullet...with mixed success. Never heard a bad word about the 7mm-08 performance. 40% less powder for 9% less performance than the 7mm Rem Mag. Did the 7mm-08 get skipped over? Is the 7mm-08 the adult version of the 6.5 creed millennial offering?
Since I don't chase the latest cartridges companies create to sell more, I am glad to see this old one. Personally, I'd rather have an old rifle shooting this old round than a new CM anything! But thats me...old man for old rounds
