If you could design a cartridge from scratch

Really nothing new under the sun. I think the 270 wsm is one of the best cartridge designs ever. Just needs guns built with the right twist rate to make it great.
Like a 6.8 western? 🤣

But wait! What if we pushed the shoulder of the Western case forward for bonus capacity??? Why, it'd almost be a .270 WSM 🥴

Just you wait!

With these new high bc .25 cal bullets there is opportunity! So many on here hate anything creedmoor…but what if…I wonder…do you think we could use the .22-250 Remington case instead and still be cool? Just imagine? A 250-22-250. Why hasn't someone done this yet???🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's kind of like my wildcat idea based on the 7mm stw necked up to 8mm 🥴
Aka 250 Savage

Simply changing the 243 to AI 40 degree gave me about 50-75% better throat life, and my 6RemAI's have better throat life than my standard 6Rem's. It changes the turbulence point to remain more in the case neck instead of the throat.

I have the same experience with the 243 AI. Few if any ever mention the Turbulence point.

I myself just Hate improper headStamping.
Especially with the 06' family
Or 308 family
I can see that. I have to be extra careful as I myself form brass from other cartridges, and the most dangerous ones are probably my 8x57s formed from 270 brass. I do have a 270. An 8mm mauser round will chamber in it. That would be ugly.

I form all kinds of cases from 308 Win and 30/06, headstamp means nothing. Also made 6.5x47 Lapua from Rem 22/250, shoots 1/2" at 200 yards in a deer rifle. Made 6 XC from 308 Chinese military brass, PMC 308, and Lake City Match 308, ended up with .400 long necks. I ordered a .275 Piloted neck reamer from PTG, and the gunsmith cut the neck longer in the chamber, then throated it for the 105s. Accuracy with even the Chinese military brass is nothing short of incredible.

In my life, I had one mix-up at the range. I was working up loads at the rifle range for a 7 Rem mag and a new 7 STW, alternating guns. I shot a 7 Rem mag in the 7 STW, and ended up with a case neck about 1/4" long, but no problems at all fire forming that case! I never did that again!

When I was a teenager, you could buy a 55-gallon drum of Lake City '06 brass for $50. We made everything from 22/250, 243, 6 Rem, 257 Roberts, 8x57, 7x57 from the '06 brass. Annealing with inside neck reaming was a given, later on we neck turned the outside of the necks replacing the inside neck reaming. Back then, inside neck reaming in a custom die was what the talking heads were all preaching. Dad also bought a couple of WWII jeeps in the wood crates to help us kids learn some skills.

Revisit the ignition stream of a heavy chamfer inside primer flash hole vs non-chamfer.

I've heard a number of ".300 win mag in .300 wby chamber" stories as well. Doesn't seem to harm anything just makes the person feel stupid.

But there are some true disasters waiting to happen. Imagine all the smaller bore diameter longer case chamberings a .350 rem mag could perfectly fit into 🥶

Calvin, in the case of the 350 Rem mag, since they headspace on the belt, I think that it may just blow the dase out to a straight wall case and that would be it, but I am not going to volunteer any of my rifles as a test! Hee Hee!

I have marked cases in different ways, dipping them in Insta Blue about half inch up from the base is a good way, to throw a flag!

It was more so the .358 caliber bullet meeting the bore of, say, a .257 weatherby that I was thinking would be violent. Talking accidentally chambering the wrong round as I know people form .350'rem mag from other cases as brass is scarce. 7mm rem, 300 win, etc…
