264 Win Vs 7mmRM preference & why?

Lol because the need for another rifle or caliber over shadowed the $$$ aspect and added cost of re-barreling. I've only owned 1 LH 7RM, Its a 700 BDL Rem, all the other were RH
If you already have a LH 700 action, I have a .264 Win Remage barrel I don't see using anytime soon. It's a 26" Kreiger with 7.5" twist and showed exceptional precision from the little I messed with it. Shoot me a PM if interested. Might throw in some dies too.

Check out the nosler load data. The PRC is very efficient. With the lighter bullets it's what for what. Even with a 140 it's within 75 fps.

It may be on paper, but have you seen it in real life? That load data says I should only be getting 3085fps at the max, when in real life I'm at 3237fps.

The 270 was around since 1925. The 264 came out in 58. In 62 the 7 mag was introduced. After that the 264's popularity took a nose dive.
Yes but JOC made the 270 famous by writing so heavily about it In the late 50's and 60's when the 264WM came out. Basically the 270 was getting all the hype.

So it was the 270 that was the Creedmoor of the 60's @memtb 😂

I think the battles back then (and still today 😂) were between the 270win and 264wm and the 7RM vs 300wm.

I'm pretty sure there are guys with R26 pushing 3200 with 140's in the PRC. Hell there are guys pushing 3000 with the creedmoor and R 26. If your willing to go past published data and load past 65K.

Thats true but the 270's man competition was the 06. The "magnum" craze and speed craze became a thing with the weatherbys which the win mag was brought out to compete with. Lets face it until the creedmoor no 6.5 was ever really popular with the masses.

With older single base powder, the 264 in a shorter barrel like the featherweight or m700 just wasn't much faster than a 270win. You have the same thing going on between the 280 and the 7rem.
Heck my 270 is running a 130bt at 3050 fps with rl17; my kid's 7rem is running a 140 sierra at 3,000 fps with a mid rl22 load. That's about even. I'd have to wind the 7rem over most books to gain any real advantage over the 270. Both are Tikka rifles to so it's not like one is super sloppy inside and the other is a tight match chambered rifle. You really need more boiler room than the medium action belted mags to get any real advantage over the 270 or 280 without hitting the pressure hard.

Why on the brass. Just size down the 7mm to 264 WM. Should be able to do just be changing the die to 264. Second thought may take two steps. You are not really bumping the shoulder back.
With my 308 N Mag I use 300WM cases. There I have to move the shoulder back some. Done with one stroke. That the easy thing on belted mag cases. At the time I didn't even anneal them unit after sizing them. After sizing the brass I would anneal them and size a 2nd time. Check for length.
I have a 264 WM also. I am changing 280AI brass to 6mm, but it takes 4 times to get it there, and all I am changing is the neck.
I should had mentioned I have 2 young sons and a wife who shoot with me. I also love taking my sons friends hunting or shooting with us every weekend so it important to have correct head stamped brass for safety reasons. Yes you can form 264 win mag brass easily from various cartridges but finding headstamped 264 win mag can sometimes be a pain… just my opinion.

Not sure what books you're using, but the 7 Rem Mag is right around 300 fps faster than a 270 Win with equal weight bullets according to Nosler (and all my other resources and personal experience loading both)...

130 gr ≈ 3150 fps, 140 gr ≈ 3000 fps, 150 gr ≈ 2900 fps

Click Here for 7 Rem Mag.
140 gr ≈ 3300 fps, 150 gr ≈ 3200 fps

Even if you ignore B.C., 270 doesn't beat 264 Win Mag, and it's not even in the same zip code as the 7 Rem Mag.

270 Win, 140 Accubond @ 495 yds ≈ 2100 fps, 1350 ftlbs

264WM, 140 Accubond @ 535 yds ≈ 2100 fps, 1350 fps

7 Rem Mag, 140 Accubond @ 625 yds ≈ 2100 fps, 1350 ftlbs

7 Rem Mag 160 Accubond @ 555 yds ≈ 2100 fps, 1550 ftlbs

When you consider B.C., the 264 slowly walks away from the 270 as it goes down range, and the 7 Rem Mag can deliver 15% more bullet on target with less drop/drift than the 270 Win.
