I start out with @lapua_ammunition 6.5 PRC cases and pass them through a @shortactioncustoms modular die with 6mm bushing. Then I load up 58gr of H1000 behind a 105 Hybrid and fire form a 40 degree shoulder. Forming loads at 3200fps, with plenty of room for powder once the barrel speeds up.

Here's the 6mm PRC Primal next to a 6mm Dasher.

First rounds on paper as pictured at 100yds. One round and 3-shot group in center with @magnetospeed_official V3 attached. Just getting on paper and grabbing some quick velocities. Then I removed magnetospeed and zeroed the rifle on dots.

I'll likely try the @hornadymfg 110gr A-Tips on pronghorn and deer this year. I'll do some updates as I continue work with this amazing rifle.

So on Your prc primal you are just basically putting a ackley improved shoulder degree correct?
How much more powder is the case capacity or the gains gonna be on the 6.5 prc primal?

Continued fire forming today. Barrel experienced POI shift and picked up speed. Same load which was producing 3200fps is now pushing a little over 3300fps. Shift happened at about 85 rounds. This is not uncommon for overbore cartridges. While a 6BRA might take 250 rounds... these fire breathers generally advance a little faster. I expect it will take another 30-40 rounds to fully stabilize... so I'll start in on load dev, and by the time I get to the fine tuning phase everything should be solid and I'll have a couple firings on the brass.

Everything's working out as expected.

Continuation of previous dot drill. I knew something was about to happen when that round came out so far. When you start seeing that, you know you're pushing out of a node.

For demonstration purposes... I put up another dot drill, grabbed the Labradar, and kept shooting 10 more dots. (top two rows) Getting pretty wild. I then cleaned the barrel. You can clearly see the rifle isn't shooting like it was. I adjusted the zero after the first 3 on the next 10 dots. Cleaning helped reign in some big swings, but it was still pretty wild compared to where I had it. Certain proof that we slipped out was evidenced by the over 100fps jump in velocity.

Some of you may be unaware, but this is exactly how it goes with new barrels. Virtually every single time. You never know exactly when it will happen, but I've never "not" had it happen, across over 150-200+ unique barrels load dev sessions.

So, I'll start in with a rough charge weight test next. Now we're finally getting to the exciting bits! ;)

Very cool…I'm in the process of another 240 weatherby:..but like the looks of this…,
There are a few key factors in the 6 PRC Primal which I think will provide a bit better experience than traditional cartridges such as the Weatherby's. The 6 PRC Primal's short/fat nature with the Ackley shoulder should provide a bit better burn characteristic, resulting in wider nodes. The Weatherby being on a 308 bolt face is obviously a long action affair, where as this is able to be setup perfectly for the heaviest bullets in 6mm while staying in a short action.

The parent case being 6.5 PRC, I don't have to worry about a belt and secondary headspace either... which is nice. I never have been able to get weatherby's shooting as easily as this has. Though, I certainly haven't worked with them in quite a while. I've been actively avoiding belted cases for nearly 15 years... in all varieties. ;)

While the .22 and 6mm PRC Primal's are going to be barrel burners for certain, they won't be as harsh as weatherby's... the 6.5 and 7mm variants are essentially big Dashers. Extremely efficient.

This is not to say there's anything wrong with what you're doing. You obviously wanted a Weatherby. :) Just some context for onlookers.

Brent tell us more you teaser, sounds very interesting Mr. Wolf!!
groups, energy out yonder, etc….
It shoots very well. 2200 plus fps and 1200 plus ft lbs at 1000. 15.4 moa on a 200 zero. Need to spend a little more time playing with groups at 1000 plus but first round impacts has been impressive. .17 moa per 100 for 5mph wind. .35 for 10 mph wind. So at 1000 at 10 it's only 3.5 moa. At 5 mph it's only 1.75.

for 22 Primal are you necking down 6.5 PRC brass also?
or are you going to do something like 22 Creed with a 40* shoulder?
