6 5 prc, 270win, 284win

Another .270 vote. 6.5 PRC is a great cartridge, but your ammo selection is basically a black box of Hornady stuff. You don't need a 6.5 PRC to kill a deer <600 yards and frankly you aren't going to shoot one past 400 with any confidence from a hunting rifle unless you actually practice medium/long range shooting IN CONTEXT (i.e., not just from a bench at your local gun club). .270 is a gift. Cherish it. Embrace it. Shoot it.

.270Win is perfect for designated need. Ammo, brass, components still more available than most cartridges. Factory rifles, pick 24" barrels, custom 1:8 tw opens up another realm. I would go 7-08 close second. Both are one of the easier cartridges to get decent hunting accuracy.

I think in today's component shortage, picking a cartridge that has "better" availability of components needs to be heavily considered.

I like the 6.5PRC but everything from die issues to brass scarcity would keep me from putting one in safe. No components = true safe queen.
Forgot to mention , when I picked the 6.5 PRC , it has to come with 260 rounds of ammo , or I'll have to send it back!

6.5PRC, even though I hate all things Hornady. Still better than the 7-08 though...
Hornady has been so very innovative, it surprises me that you are so down on them. I started using their 140 SST Superformace ammo in my 270 decades ago. It has been accurate and effective for me, had a great 10 year run on successful Coues hunts. When I started shooting in PRS matches their 6.5C match ammo was affordable and accurate. Heck even their bargain priced bulk American Gunner ammo shot lites out in my two 6.5C rifles. Their line up of Precision Hunter ammo is a great concept and has worked well for me.

BTW my vote is 270 WIN

Hornady doesn't make the Superformance powder.

Hornady brass, in the past, has sucked. It has gotten better. But very inconsistent lot to lot. Key examples:
When the 6.5SAUM 4S came out, Hornady stepped up and made brass, so glad they did, as this is a great round (started by wildcatting the 7SAUM made by Remington) In 3 very distinct lots, with up to 30gr brass weight variations. Not interchangeable with the same load.
I have found big brass weight variations between factory ammo brass and virgin brass for the reloader. Also between ammo type. In 6.5CM and 6CM too.

The ELD-X, ELD-M, old A-Max bullets are good performers. But not too consistent from what I have found. I do love the V-max bullets for coyotes.

The 6.5CM/6CM. When they were introduced, the main reason for success was the availability of a lot of ammo choices. But the cartridge itself is not much different than others. Right between 6.5x47L and .260 Rem. Or 6x47L and .243 Win. All good choices, and nice to have options. Luckily, brass manufacturers like Lapua, Peterson, Alpha are making great brass for the cartridges. I own a 6CM, 25CM, and 6.5CM (older daughter's rifle). So I am being hypocritical here. But if there was no Creed family, I would have a .243AI, .250AI (had one for a long time), 6.5SLR (I own one of these too), or .260 Rem/.260AI (I own one of these too).

6.5PRC, again, thank goodness Lapua and ADG are making good brass for this. The 6.5PRC doesn't do anything a 6.5-.284 or 6.5SAUM won't do. And the huge issue with SAAMI chambers and SAAMI cut dies not sizing correctly is a widely known problem.

.300PRC, still right between .300WM, 30 Nosler, & .300RUM. Same problem with SAAMI chambers and SAAMI dies.

Hornady's marketing team are geniuses. I will definitely give them that.

I guess I just changed my own mind.
I still hate Hornady brass. And still hate the fact that I like the snowflake mainstream millenial Ceeedmoor family. My hair is too short for a man-bun.
Creedmoors are like mopeds and....you know the other part. Fun to ride, but you don't want anyone seeing you do it.

I am sure you noticed that almost everyone owns 1 or 2 of your desired calibers and i am in the bunch myself. I own 3, 6.5 prc, 270 win and 7 mag. Of the 3 the 270 and 7 mag are the easiest to find components for. I have a good supply of prc's but i got them 2 years ago and glad i did. Anyway the 270 and 7 will do anything you want including big bear. Oh and without the recoil. Good luck and happy shooting.

The 6.5 PRC is a great cartridge. A friend of mine took an elk last year at 680 yards one shot well placed. I have a 7mm-08 and I wouldn't be comfortable taking a shot like that with it.

They are all good deer rifles. If you like 7mm, maybe a 280 ackley. If larger game are on you list, 28 Nosler. most important is to enjoy the hunt
With all the excellent bullets available, it's hard to not like a 7MM version. I have 3 284's 3 280AI's and two 7-08's. All are under 8 lbs ready to hunt with the 7-08's right around 6 lbs. They are easy to load, efficient, and recoil is manageable.
