7 PRC SAAMI approved

No, it's not. The 300prc necked down to 284, is a 7mm-300prc. It has a 30° shoulder and 0.010/" taper, not a 40° shoulder and 0.0067/" taper ala PO Ackley shoulder Sherman taper. The 28SM is a 7/300prc improved. Guys pushing 195s at 3200 fps with 97 gr of powder where a 28 nosler which holds 103gr powder usually pressures out at 3130-3150. How is this possible in the realm of physics?
Thank you!
Guys were building 7-300 prcs before anyone increased the capacity by 1 grain, called it the 28 SM, and started claiming it outperformed a properly throated 28 Nos

The source I got the information from was someone regarded in the industry. They mentioned that it was "just Saami approved and should wait until summer". Take it for what it's worth. They didn't have to tell me since I was going to spend money through them on another option, so I appreciated the honesty.

So curious - is it the 6.5PRC necked up or the 300PRC necked down?

Apparently a 7 PRC has been SAAMI approved and should be released this summer.

Oh buddy!
Nice - I have had one for 2 years now. How did they do it, neck up 6.5 PRC or like what I did, neck down 300 PRC?

If it's the 7mm Short PRC I'm in. McWhorter is getting great results with it.
Yes it is, they're getting good velocities to boot! It should be highly efficient also.

I haven't shot anything factory for at least ten years but I can see how factory availability would be a big deal for most guys
Yeah, there's far more people that shoot factory than reload. So, with that if it's got factory ammunition you have the potential to get the non reloaders and reloaders. You get twice the amount of people involved. From what I've noticed with saami approval you tend to get more than one quality brass manufacturer to make the brass in a shorter period of time too.

How many places can you get Sherman brass or some of these other idk, semi custom chamberings, the LRM is another. Great concepts and performance, just not a lot of known data for them for the common shooters and no factory ammo. There are way more common shooters that don't reload than there are that do reload. Some, like my uncle, reloads but hates the process of building the brass or having to deal with the process of necking up or down, then trimming, then turning the necks. Idk what his process is for his 6.5-270wsm is(obviously necking down here) but he has told me that he won't do another like that, it has to have factory brass available for it for the next rifle he would buy.
Please don't take offense to this, but people like some here that like using, shooting and dealing with wildcats are a very small minority in the shooting/hunting world combined. I would like to mess with wildcats one day but time to tinker is very limited so is money.

I'll be honest I don't know anything real specific. I inquired about building my own necked up 6.5 prc to 7 prc, so my guess, take that for little cause I don't know, is it'll atleast be based on that.

Although with hornady backing the 7LRM, I wonder if it'll be something in between and take advantage of a true mid length action? So they will have coveted the 6.5 prc SA, the 300 PRC LA and now have a 7 PRC mid action.

Hard to say. I really like what MrWhorters have done with the 6.5prc necked up to 7mm. If people wanted to put it is a short action and get eh, ok velocities, fine. Or if some want to put it in a medium or long action to get THE most out of it, fine, great, wonderful, go for it!

So medium action for 7 PRC just like 6.5 PRC? With XM and the LP/Stiller/Zermatt mediums being different now, and the stock/magazine options being hard to come by for either, it's another nightmare. I moved on past the 7 SAUM due to this, and to the 280AI, since at least LA magazines/stocks are simple.

Eh🤷🏻‍♂️, each to their own. That's why America is awesome…..you do you and there's no one that can tell you what you want to do.

Plus isn't the 6.5 prc technically able to load in a SA? And you don't have to go custom a ton of factory 6.5 prc options
