My thoughts on solid copper bullets and in comparison to other bullet types.

If you're not holding 1.1 mil or 3.9 moa on your reticle, or dialing for it, yes. If you have a reticle without proper holdovers, and you're running something like a duplex reticle, and just aim high like you're saying, I will stand by my claim that you'd mostly likely miss at 500 yards, especially if you're also not properly adjusting/holding for wind. I mean zero offense here. I'm only trying to help.
I shoot a 16" x 16" steel gong 3 times a week using this hold over I put my center crosshair on the top of the plate and that puts my 1mil mark dead center and that's where it hits. Bushnell Forge 3-18X50 FFP
 
Man that's smoking fast. Have you shot anything with that load butterbean? I'm curious about bloodshot or meat damage. I've been really impressed with the hammers. This thread is very really good, let's try not to get off track
I have not but my season opens the 15th of this month but fordy has killed a bunch with this combo, meat damage is minimal

That doesn't add up. If the plate is at 500 yards then your saying 1mil equals 8in at 500 yards. Your plate isn't at 500 yards then if im understanding this correctly.
 
I think the solids really have the potential to extend a cartridges usefulness. For instance, let's say I want to run a fast twist to stabilize long for caliber but I can still shoot the smaller solids for less recoil. It will be interesting to see what the industry trend is in the next few years

I noticed when I shot the 90 ah's out of the 25-06 at 540 yards, the drop was less than expected. This could be the same discrepancy.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can do the same with cup and core bullets too.
 
Hopefully someday, hammer and the other solid manufacturers build an app like the Hornady. That would really be sweet

Math is math. Retained velocity based on the particular bullet's BC and MV will determine specific drop for a load, and it'll change depending on the bullet and velocity, but that's not the point. With his load, he doesn't have a lot of drop overall at 500 yards, but it's still 20" nonetheless.

Well, I believe what butterbean is saying about the 15" target based on what I noticed with the 90 ah's. Something didn't add up ( pun intended)
