Bergers or Hornady

I am new here and trying to get my posts up so I can send a PM. what does everyone prefer, Berger or Hornady? I personally prefer Berger for both comp and hunting.
Welcome to the site. Both shoot well for me. Hornady ELD-M for hunting so far but going to try the Bergers - as soon as I can find the Elite Hunters in 6.5 or 30 cal that is. I am also intrigued by the Hammer and Cutting-edge Lazer. When I rebarrel going to twist it enough to stabilize those.

I have a 6.5 PRC and have good luck with the factory Hornady Match 147 ELD-M rounds.

I am now reloading for that rifle (Bergara Premier HMR Pro) and started with the 153gr A-Tips. As you can see from the attached picture, I am having an issue with the stability of that bullet ... not sure if it is tumbling or yawing or jacket separation.

In any case, whatever it is, it has happened now 5 times out of 50 rounds.

Anyone experience anything similar with A-Tips? If so, what caliber/ grains?

Only hear about these things but have never experienced it. I run hornady in everything and about 2000 rounds per year. Can't shoot like I used to due to supplies. My new barrel on the 6.5 PRC is a 8 twist and shoots 153 and 135 A tips extremely well. My proof barrel is 7.5, same gig, shoots well. My proof is 4 groove and the x caliber is 5. Often wonder if there is something associated with grooves and twist but I since I've never experienced an issue I can only guess.

Hi Brent ... My Bergara barrel is 6 groove/ 1:8 twist. Also, I tried RL-26 / H1000 / N565 and got the "tumbling" with all of them. I know from other blogs I am not the only one experiencing this, but, I cannot isolate it to a cause.

By the way, the target distance was 100 yards, and the loads were not hot.

Another question is, are you buying because of BC or other preference? I don't hunt or any comps, just shoot for fun. Most shooting I do is within 600 yards on pigs and coyotes (still not hunting, just pest control) and use what works best for each gun. I use more Sierra than any other, but time will tell? Berger 130AR seems promising. I buy more FMJ than any other type, so I buy Norma and Lapua mostly. FMJ is hard to find in most calibers since some companies are dropping/discontinued them from production. Speer had 75gr TMJ in 22cal and has been my go too for 22cal. Finding FMJ in 27cal has been fruitless. Hornady would be my best average on the 2 from OP.

I buy hornadys to reduce cost on range ammo and enjoy them for that

I have no plans to shoot an animal with one, not that I hate them I've just not been terribly impressed and I know my 215s will bring the death

Recently opened a new lot of 6.5 147 ELDMs and measured the overall length and set calipers to zero. After measuring 100 bullets 93 were within 0.001. the other seven were as much as plus and minus 0.0075. Continued with similar results in the lot of 500. Loaded the 93% and found less than 1/2 MOA groups from 100 yards out to 1000 yards. I'll use the other 7% for fouling rounds. At $43 / 100 and what I consider good availability these bullets are "Okay" for my general shooting purposes. I am hopefully going to shoot at least one on a mule deer hunt next week. Perhaps Berger's are better? I have not tested them yet. I'd like the Hornadys better if they all measured +/-0.001

I prefer Berger bullets for important ammunition. And at the current cost of things, what's not important? If Hornady's bullets or ammunition work for you, great. I like the A-Tip's bc, but too many people have had problems with Hornady bullets not making it to the target because of high velocity and RPM. I run higher velocity and RPM than they recommend, so I don't use Hornady's. I know Bergers bullets always work in my guns, and do what I want them to do at the velocity I run!

It depends on the caliber. My seven Weatherby hates Hornady bullets but loves burgers and Barnes. although my 300 WinMag loves hornady eldx.
