I'd ease up on the crimp, it should hardly be noticeable.

I never crimped a bottleneck rifle case until I started loading hammers. I found my standard .002" NT was not always sufficient to keep the bullet from spinning in the case mouth about 20% of the time. Even those that did not spin were not shooting well for me. Thinking crimping may be preferable to additional NT, I did some research and found BB's "Why I Crimp" post. It changed my thinking and I'm now the owner of 16 FCDs and crimp everything I shoot. Most shot better. None shot worse.

I've already run my previously uncrimped loads through my Lee Crimper starting with 1/8th turn and will see how she shoots, then adjust from there if necessary.

Mr. ButterBean, I'm hollerin' for help. I have read a zillion posts on crimping, especially now that I am using more Hammers than anything else. What I have not read is if a plain old crimp from a plain old seating die will yield any positive results, or, is a Lee Factory Crimp Die a necessity. What say you, brother? MTGeezer

Yes Sir it will work and while there is some tune-ability in the standard roll crimp it is not as forgiving as the FCD but IMO any crimp is better than none at all

Thank you, sir! I tried to order 2 of the Lee FCDs from our local "Lee distributor" and was told they can't get any in. May have to order direct from Lee and pay shipping; it won't break the bank. Ha ha Thanks again!!!

6.5 Prc and 300 Win mag for now. Our range has been closed since early June due to extreme fire hazards so I will be using just those 2 for deer and elk this year. Only trigger time I've had was with a buddy down in Cody 2 weeks ago.
