H4350 substitute

Fortunately, I still have several pounds of H4350 left. I guess all those years of buying up Estate, "Going Out Of Business", Clearance and yard sales are paying off. Not that my wife understood then.......but does now.

Anyone being forced to play with different powders that normally would use 4350? Any luck with loads substituting H4350? Noticed Accurate 4350 comes available every now and again , is it similar? I've just always used h4350 because it works well in all cartridges I use.

Here's the relative burn rate of H4350 quantified vs. other powders.

Looks to me like IMR 4350 is the best as its almost identical, but I have heard its being discontinued? I may be wrong on that, but I's buy at least 8 lbs if so. Its still available several places where I have seen it.

RL-16 would be the second choice. Go from there based on the chart below.

IMR 4451 .57's
Win 6.5 Staball .54's little hotter
IMR 4350 .51's within a whisker of being Identical to H4350
H4350 .51's
RL16 .49's very close
IMR 4955 .49's close as well, but not as close as RL-16
RL17 .47's
N160 .46's
Norma 204 .46's but not very easy to get either.
RL19 .45's
IMR 4831 .44's
Accurate 4350 .38's not really all that close despite the name.

I sure hope IMR 4350 is not being discontinued. One of my "go to" powders.

N555 or RL16, all I use now in CM.

I have started using Vihtavourri powders in many of my rifles, since I discovered it. It is crazy clean burning and super consistent lot to lot. A little pricey, but post Covid, all powders are around $40 per lb.

If it's for 6'5 creed … Hybrid 100 works well.
This is what I'm using for our 6.5CM (140gn match burners) as well... and it's just sitting on the shelves around here. In fact, it's about the only thing sitting on shelves but I'm really happy with it so far.

I used H4381sc with the 156 eol and got same node as h4350. Obviously different charge. Since it was slightly slower I was trying for more speed but didn't get it.

Haven't used it in other bullet size.

Veteran - where did you hear IMR 4350 was being discontinued? That would be a shocker. Despite its lack of popularity on some forums like this - it is likely much more commonly used than the favorites here. Im guessing its a top 3 powder.

I agree that it's highly unlikely H4350 will be discontinued. Probably the most popular powder with the high component consumption PRS competitors, which may very well be one of the the reasons for the short short supply.
