.375 Hornady bullets for Africa?

I recently ran a thread regarding Hornady 8mm SST bullets and their explosiveness on mule deer. When I last shot Africa 5-years ago I used the now (and then) discontinued .375, 300-grain bullet # 3720, another explosive projectile. My experience was that none of the animals I harvested (nine total) had exit wounds and all dropped either immediately or shortly after being struck with no tracking. I'd like to reload some more for my return trip next year. I have not found the 300-grain round/soft nose bullets available anywhere on the web so I'm putting it here; does anybody have or know of any quantity of the Hornady .375, 300-grain bullet # 3720 for sale?

I know you're specifically asking for those bullets, but have you considered using either a Woodleigh 270gr RNSP or 300gr RNSP?
These bullets, although not what anybody would call explosive, are definitely soft enough for your use.
A much harder bullet is their 270gr and 300gr PP, which is what I use in my 375 Bee here in Australia on water buff.
I highly recommend the RNSP for plains game.

Cheers.

I used them with my handloads in .375 H&H on Lion and Buffalo. They performed great, though no bullets were recovered.

Good Luck

Jerry

I've got one box marked #3720. 2 others that are 300 grain Hornady's, but don't have #3720 that I can find.

Also a box of 300 grain FMJ, and a box of 270 grain spire point. All Hornady

Pretty sure they're full boxes, they're downstairs and my leg gave out before a thorough inspection. Boxes a bit battered. I'll have someone bring them up for photo's, and inspection, if you tell me which or any you would like.

HARPERC,
Thank you for your effort here. I look forward to hearing more, I'm more than a little excited!

I got my reloaded .375 Hornady ammo from a guide in Africa. He wasn't fond of Barnes (we discussed Barnes and he was polite about it but firm) and preferred bullets that stayed inside (in lots of little fragments throughout the vitals); never had to track a blood trail. Proper shot placement makes these bullets work. I would definitely not use these on a buffalo or other members of the big boned bad-*** class but rather a deep penetrating stay-together bullet instead.
Thank you,

1) 2 boxes 300 grain Hornady No stock Number
2) 1 box 300 grain Hornady FMJ
3) Mostly full box of 3720 you expressed interest in.
4) Outside of box.
5) Box of 270 spitzers

I can't see a difference in the box of #3720, and the boxes without a lot number. Let me know which ones your interested in and I'll get you a count.

I would not use hornady DGX bullets on any dangerous or heavy boned game. I shot the crap out of this Livingston eland a few years ago and had 3- 300 grain round nosed DGXs blow up..I was running them at 375 RUM velocitys but still...not the type of performance you want on big heavy animals...swift and Woodliegh would be the way I'd go...

Proper shot placement makes these bullets work.
This is the only way to get ANY bullet to work.

The best 375 cal bullet I've ever tried on PG is the Nosler 260gr Accubond, absolutely smashes those big bodied bastards.
Shoots real flat too, with a muzzle velocity of 2950fps, it is real impressive at 200yrd hits. 300yrd hits are simple too, yet my PH limited shots to 200yrd max. Only on small animals did these bullets exit. From Zebra up, they were all recovered in the offside hide.

Cheers.

HARPERC,
Are you no longer shooting the .375? If you're not I'm interested in all of them.

They're yours then.

I don't shoot the .375 much since I had a neck surgery, and I've got more than enough to keep me shooting awhile. Might take up casting again. There are so many good .375 bullets out there if I was to hunt with it I'd use the Hammer's. These older ones kill well enough, just some advantages in the new.

I got these handed to me when an older fellow passed, and got nothing in them. PM me an address, and you can have them for shipping.

I would very much like to have the 375 bullets if still being offered. Do you have a shipping price and Pay Pal or I can send a check or money order. Will Gray, 431 Forest Circle, Ruston, LA 71270
