Made in the USA important to you?

Being a veteran, I make it a point to buy american if the quality is there. It is a personal choice what a person buys so I don't get upset with any one over it. I also boycott certain stores that have polices that I don't like. But that's the american way.

I have found that cheep is more expensive most of the time. so I buy american when it is as good or better than foreign and mostly stay away from Chinese goods.

Just me.

Amen to that brother !

I have found myself over the last couple years putting heavy emphasis on whether or not something is made in the US when making a decision to purchase something, especially firearms related. Its why I went with a versamax over an SBE 2 a few years ago. The most recent example was going with a VX6HD over an NX8 (made in Japan). I am not perfect at it and I also want something of quality and reliable. I didn't use to care and never even considered the country of origin, I am now in my late 30's and somewhere along the way it started to matter to me. Just curious if any of you out there take that into consideration when making purchases?
I wish that everything we buy has a tag saying, "made in the USA." Six months ago the wife and I bought a car KIA Sportage, but it an American design but the parts are made in South Korea. Since I was stationed in Korea three times, I watched for many years the South Korean card kept getting better. Looking at what the USA automobile makers vehicles we're not had good in what the South Korean are making. The KIA Sportage best out other higher-priced cars even what America producing plus the South Korean give a better warranty over all other carmakers. My 2003 Dodge 2500 Diesel truck made in Mexico, go figure. Outsourcing these days.

Buying foreign was forced down our throats by the globalist politicians redistributing wealth.
They forced so much technology and manufacturers out of the country by making it too expensive to have a factory here. I know I'm preaching to the choir. It's very hard to find products in our sport that isn't made in the pacific rim and Europe. With the best quality coming out of countries we've done battle with. Hmmm, fight and die over there and then send them them our money for the next 100 years.

Funny you bring that up - I just got back from my annual pheasant hunt with a couple buddies. One has an SBE 3 and the other a beretta A400. Both of their guns had multiple malfunctions - the SBE 3 failed to feed 3 different times. My versamax is on its 4th season and has never had a problem. Every year my buddies are battling their Italian shotguns.

The only reason I bring this up is they were both telling me the same thing and mocked me when I went with the versamax. To each their own, maybe I got a really good one and they got some bad ones or maybe its a maintenance thing. I think some american companies have worked really hard to put out quality products.
Have never had a mal function with my Versa Max for 6 years. Friends Benneli fails to feed now and then. Maybe needs cleaning. Lol

I try to as well. In the early 1970's when I first ventured into skeet shooting I stumbled onto a fellow shooter that had a Charles Daly over/under skeet gun with 5 sets of barrels 12, 16, 20, 28 & .410 He sold it to me for $850. Those shotguns were made in Nankoku, Kōchi Prefecture, Japan by Miroku. They have been great and of extremely high quality. A part in the ejectors in the 28ga barrel set went bad, my smith got in touch with them, provided the serial numbers and he received the parts for free, from Japan in 2 weeks.

I have Remingtons, Savages, Winchesters, Rugers. In 1999 I walked into a shop in Central Pennsylvania and saw a SigArms 970SHR, Swiss made. Attractive piece, seemed well made, I jumped on it for $625. I put another $725 into a scope and I have my favorite hunting rifle in .270win. It is an excellent rifle, quality work. It shoots everything I have fed it extremely well. I also have a Browning T-bolt, and a Baretta O/U 12ga. So my safe has 4 foreign made firearms in it that I am proud to say I own. Not a single purchase I regret. At the time I made these purchases, do I wish I had a domestic option as well made at a similar price point, yes. But no such alternative was available. I don't notice the Remingtons, Savages, Winchesters, Rugers trying to get out of the way of their foreign neighbors. Heck, if we decided to only drive "ALL AMERICAN" cars or trucks, we'd be riding horses, or bicycles (which would probably not be made here). Yes I try to buy american, more manufacturing is coming back, and quality is improving, making the decision easier.

I hear all this talk about global competitiveness. I know it's a challenge for
manufacturers for sure. I find if you look hard enough there is an American company doing it and doing it well. So I ask how do these American companies survive and prosper in such a competitive market? Really the question is wrong. What drives these companies to take their labor overseas? My opinion corporate greed and greedy investors that want maximum profits to get maximum payouts to get maximum stock value.

Nailed it!
I believe that if one really looks at the corporations who are prospering with their manufacturing here, they are family owned as opposed to traded on the stock market.
I read a piece in the New York Times a few years ago how Carrier Corp was moving their plant to Mexico. They had made Billion dollar profits the previous year, but the stockholders felt it could be better.
And those same stockholders cry about having to support those who are out of work...

I get ya. We destroy Japan and Germany and then we rebuild them to take over our economy. Then there's China.... Support the Red Army. Buy Chinese. I won't get into the political tradors. I try to buy U.S. and if I can't I try to buy from a country that's not our sworn enemy.

Looking at country of origin affects my buying decisions as well.
I have been a recent victim of 'assembled in the USA'. I had one of the big name batteries leak in a nightscope. They were new. I am currently in email correspondence with the maker.
I was a mechanic for 25 years before a career change. I worked on anything with an engine. Cars, trucks, ag, construction, lawn & garden, etc.
That said, if God didn't make it then it needs a warranty.

As much as possible for me. Every bit is undoing the damage caused in 1972 when presidential disgrace dick Nixon gave it all away to the Chinese. Not a political comment... just stating the facts.

You're r correct that President Nixon opened the door for China to be engaged on the world stage. However, you're incorrect in giving President Nixon credit for the damage to our economy China's entry to the world stage caused. This can be directly related to President Clinton's so called greatest legislative achievement... opening the door to all China into the WTO. This is why so called progressives in Colorado and elsewhere hate President Trump. He believes in America first and buy America when you can, unlike according to polls the 50% of Americans. An an example of reporting of the cause of the rise of China; https://slate.com/business/2016/09/...d-the-chinese-economy-and-roused-a-giant.html
