Schmitt & Bender feedback

I could get by with my Weaver 4 power thin wire,,, but I like the option of having a bit more zoom now days,,, not for hunting that is since all of my harvests have taken place at 35 feet to 600 + yards,,, low power optics work for me...

The wide field of view is what I'm after in the field.

On the range is where the optic zoom comes in handy,,, if the cross-hairs track on the dial up & down,,, then its a keeper.

If the zoom and parallax dials work at -36 to -40c,,, its a keeper.

It I can face plant the optic 2 to 3 X's,,, and it holds zero,,, its a keeper...

Same thing for me,,, if a person can afford it,,, then more power to ya,,, I thought I was crazy spending $1500 + Cnd funds on glass was waaaaay over my budget,,, pretty sure that 87 to 92% of the shooters fit the low to mid range category... That is why there are so many optics to choose from now days...

Depressed currency plays a big role in sales,,, and the world economy situation isn't getting better,,, its actually shrinking all around the globe...

Another thing that comes to mind in my shooting sports is the life time,,, more so mine... I """might""" see another 15 or 20 years of good times before I pack it in,,, the 2 dresser draws of old and new glass I have on hand """paid""" for will take me the distance...

My Sightron will win me spots in the F Class shooting sports because it does what its suppose to...

Yuppers,,, looks like we're off to the Rocky Mountains for a few weeks to do some mountain shooting,,, fishing,,, sight seeing,,, and camping... All paid for by saving funds...

The less I spend on gadgets incress the time spent in the out-doors...

Oh Yha,,, let the good time role.
A+ on the sighton. I put a 4-20x50 stac on a cheap budget rifle that I re-barreled with an el-cheapo barrel. Ok, glass but it tracks excellent. No fancy features on it. Good knobs though. I laid down 7 consecutive shots on my steel plate @ 500 yard with 3-9mph cross wind gusts. Ended up with a 7 shot group with less than 1 inch vertical and less than 2 inch horizontal. Put the 8th shot into a pill bottle @500yds after I figured my wind hold from the previous 7 shots. $389 sighton with $600 custom built el-cheapo rifle rebarreled by myself. Less than $1000 total investment. Just wanted to see how cheaply it could be done.

Sure, they will keep the parts and skills necessary to service it for 30 years - they don't say how much that will cost you. I am sure it isn't cheap, even if you slow boat that ---- back to Germany...

So ten years is free. That I've have dealt with for a premiere. Then after that the cost is mostly labor. I've not, nor have heard anyone charge for things that are common breaks, like o rings, or a loose screw. However, if you break a entire objective lens or something, in which case $500 or whatever the charge maybe is better than nothing for one the closest you can get for a perfect scope. However, keep in mind these were made to take a beating and work flawlessly after, they won't just merely break because you dropped it. So I guess the answer to your question is a two part, maybe nothing, maybe something.

Don't get all upset because S&B's warranty is only okay. Like I said before they sure do leave the wording on their warranty so they have plenty of outs!
" In the first 10 years after buying the scope the service will even be free of charge, provided the claim is based on material defects or faulty workmanship. "
Doesn't really read anything like the warranties on optics I own.

had a Schmidt and Bender and sold it and bought a Swarovski. Far as I'm concerned Swaro makes the best glass (they pour, grind and polish their own. Have a pair of EL Range too. Swaro scopes are also lighter. I'm into weight, I'm old.

I own a couple early Vortex scopes with LOE glass, not bad but not a Swaro either.

I look at scopes like pastry. Anyone can buy and eat a soda biscuit. Not everyone can buy and appreciate Povitivca.

Nightforce makes the same claim - they were advertising the scope that took a bullet in combat and kept working allowing them to complete the mission. I am not questioning S&Bs quality or reliability - I think they were the gold standard. I just feel like other companies have stepped up to the plate and have created equally reliable, quality optics for a lot less money.

I know Vortex gets a lot of crap, but I have a lot of respect for the company - they have their ear to the ground and have made an effort to put out an american made product that is exceptional in the AMG - maybe at 37 years old I am finally growing up and trying to be more sensitive and aware, but in the last couple years, whenever I can afford it I support american manufacturing or companies who are making an effort. I think Vortex is one of those. Leupold is another - luckily I didn't get into them until a couple years ago and my first Leupold was a VX5HD - another exceptional american made optic.

Something that NightForce didn't advertise was that they used to make a more robust military version NXS only for Mil/LE...however their lesser civilian offering is nothing to sneeze at. Mine is the only scope that I have fully trusted for years.

Please tell us how their warranty service was on the scope you sent in to them. Did they charge for it?

Yep, and I used it twice on a brand new PST gen II before it was ever mounted...
Leupold's is equally as good, have used it about a dozen times (6 times on a FFP MK4 I owned).
So far NightForce has had the best, because I've never had to use it.:D
Think I would have stopped buying Leupolds and sold it after the 2nd time... When I worked at the gun store we sent back more Leupolds than any other scope. Mostly bent tubes or broken lenses from crushed tubes by over tightening the rings (by the purchaser who didn't want us to do the install). We also sent back more Savages than any other gun. This was early 2000's. I see not much has changed. :D
