Schmitt & Bender feedback

IMO, there is no advantage, other than to tell people you own a $3,000 scope. Plus, if you look through a modern S&B, they are now using some yellow lens coating and everything looks yellow tinted... Not an attractive quality, IMO...Looks like you're looking through a 1980's Tasco, at 300x the price tag.
I have 3 S&B PM2s the latest one bought a year ago. I haven't noticed

I have 3 S&B PM2 scopes 4 - 16, 5 -25, and my latest 12 -50 bought about a year ago. I haven't noticed any yellow cast at all. They all track exactly windage and elevation. In the U.K. they hold their price extremely well. The only downside I've had is that both the windage and elevation ( 1/8 moa) on the 12x- 50x rotate in the OPPOSITE direction to my other PM2s!! Caused a few lurid moments until I became accustomed.

Years ago I bought a Tasco world class thinking how could I go wrong with the no fault warranty. Hiking up the mountain before daylight I got my feet tied up in some brush the rifle on my shoulder went flying forward and landed on the scope. It was still dark so I couldn't inspect for damages. Later in the morning I spotted a decent Muley and went to take a shot. That is when I noticed that eyepiece was bent down towards the bolt. I couldn't even open the bolt without removing the scope.
I sent the scope in thinking it would be replaced. They sent the same scope back with the main tube partially straightened. Not a new one or fully repaired, you could visually see the bend in it. It went straight on the trash.

Guess my point is that a warranty is only as good as the company that backs it up.

Well, I've had several people tell me they were trying something new with the yellow lens coating, and that it was in fact something S&B did on purpose. Maybe they only did it for a very short time, but I do have other witnesses there who were there, and also looked through all 6 of them, and said the same thing. Might have been a defective batch, but either way, I wouldn't have even bought one it was so bad. Shocked me pretty bad, too.

If S&B only offers a 2 year warranty, you can bet your *** I'll never spend $4000 on one of their scopes. That's like drunk-marrying a random Vegas stripper in a drive-through chapel...And not having a pre-nup. Your odds just aren't looking good, in more than 1 way.

Have you ever been to Vegas? All I'm saying is not to speak of things you know nothing about...she may be getting the bad end of that deal!:D

I did not believe MudRunner2005 when he said only a 2 year warranty. So I looked on Schmidt & Benders website.
He was right only 2 years, and it is worded so that they can reject just about any warranty claim they want to.
I'm sure they are nice, but no way I could justify that much money for that short of a warranty, especially when there are so many other great options with outstanding warranties.

Again with the warranty, the EU warranty is 2 years. There are different warranties on different S&B products.

The 5-25x56 warranty that comes with it says:
within 30 years from the date of purchase, we will correct any problems caused by faulty material or workmanship. In this regard, we reserve the right to either repair or replace defective devices. For these 30 years, we undertake to keep the required parts available and will ensure that our service staff will possess the knowledge and skills to carry out the necessary work.
Within the first ten years from the date of purchase, we shall assume the costs for material and labor.

I would ask some people who actually own them to read their warranty certs with the scope to read there's so you can hear the differences.

I could get by with my Weaver 4 power thin wire,,, but I like the option of having a bit more zoom now days,,, not for hunting that is since all of my harvests have taken place at 35 feet to 600 + yards,,, low power optics work for me...

The wide field of view is what I'm after in the field.

On the range is where the optic zoom comes in handy,,, if the cross-hairs track on the dial up & down,,, then its a keeper.

If the zoom and parallax dials work at -36 to -40c,,, its a keeper.

It I can face plant the optic 2 to 3 X's,,, and it holds zero,,, its a keeper...

Same thing for me,,, if a person can afford it,,, then more power to ya,,, I thought I was crazy spending $1500 + Cnd funds on glass was waaaaay over my budget,,, pretty sure that 87 to 92% of the shooters fit the low to mid range category... That is why there are so many optics to choose from now days...

Depressed currency plays a big role in sales,,, and the world economy situation isn't getting better,,, its actually shrinking all around the globe...

Another thing that comes to mind in my shooting sports is the life time,,, more so mine... I """might""" see another 15 or 20 years of good times before I pack it in,,, the 2 dresser draws of old and new glass I have on hand """paid""" for will take me the distance...

My Sightron will win me spots in the F Class shooting sports because it does what its suppose to...

Yuppers,,, looks like we're off to the Rocky Mountains for a few weeks to do some mountain shooting,,, fishing,,, sight seeing,,, and camping... All paid for by saving funds...

The less I spend on gadgets incress the time spent in the out-doors...

Oh Yha,,, let the good time role.

And for you googlefu ninjas since im just a dude on the Internet, here ya go from s&b website themselves from the Service department.

Just trying to make sure the information out there is accurate before biased opinions start to stack up to support bad information.

Sure, they will keep the parts and skills necessary to service it for 30 years - they don't say how much that will cost you. I am sure it isn't cheap, even if you slow boat that **** back to Germany...

As indicated, for the US, it is transferable 20 year warranty due to pressure of the other manufacturers
