Let me start by saying I am not a fan of the 6.5. Never have been never will be. That being said my brother won this rifle and being a reloading nut case, I want to help him find some loads. Looked in my current batch of reloading manuals and can't find a load. Sooooo
HELP!
I believe that the best bullet for this cartridge will be the 140 class of bullets. No elk with this rifle, probably mostly deer, antelope and coyotes.
I think, given the case capacity, that some of the really slow powders, RL26, H1000, IMR7828, Retumbo, etc. are going to be the best mix. Magnum primers to start it.
I am going to go to Quickload and see if there is a way to come up with a safe load.
Thanks to everyone in advance for any help.

I have one as well (Mark V Accumark) and have mixed feelings about it. This rifle would be better on deer at long range because anything in close will just blow up.
For powder, US869, 50BMG and 7977 have worked best for me (also tried H1000 and Retumbo with just OK results). 7977 was better with the 120 Etips and the other 2 were better with 140 Accubond/Partitions.
So far this has been a pretty finicky rifle though. Getting 1 MOA was fairly straight forward but squeezing the last bit of accuracy has been frustrating. Then add in the short barrel life and you really want to make every round count. Good luck though and keep up posted if you find the magic combo!

I am glad you mentioned short barrel life. I told my brother that we would need to find an accurate load in a short time due to the huge over bore with the incumbent short barrel life.
I have some BMG. Good to know it might work with this cartridge.
Thank you.

A big congratulations to your brother. Have him consider using the money saved by winning the rifle on a couple of new barrels. ;) I don't think that they will last very long, if shot a lot!...But, should be a blast (pun intended) while it lasts! Hope that he enjoys his new rifle! Congratulations Again! memtb

Reloder 33, US869, N570 is where I would start. 140 Accubonds would be a good all around hunting bullet in that cartridge. You should be able to see upwards of 3400 fps with a 140.

I'd look at running some Hammer hunters out of it, or maybe the 139 sledgehammer. You'll make up for the lost bc with the velocity.

I own a 30/378 which like the 6.5/300 is barrel burner. My advice to you would be to set a realistic accuracy goal and once there stop testing. Keep in mine ,they are hunting rifles not target guns. With calibers such as these it's easy to use 75/80% of the throat testing. You get where you want to be and the barrel is just about done.JMA

I have had success with US 869 and 143 ELD-X. Worked loads from 84 to 89 gr. At 100 yds all loads shot well enough to repeat at 200 yds. 88 gr yielded a group at 1.031" and an average speed of 3209.
I have my load and still have my barrel.

As a good brother, you should give him kriegers number.

Bmg and us869 worked well for me in 26 nosler 140 accubond. Once I got it to.50 I quite. Now I just check zero in the fall and maybe a shot at deer and that's it. I figure it should last a long while shooting like that.
