Hello boys

I ask you if it be possible and safe enough to convert a winchester xpr Cal. 338 win mag to a 338 lapua Ackley improved ?
Of course the bolt face will be open and the exctrator will be upgrade.

My goal it' s push a 300 grains lapua to 3000fps with 28 inch barrel.

Thanks everybody

Giuliano

why, is my only question. Seems like an aweful lot to put ones self through to gain 200 fps.. Out to a thousand yards it would be slightly better butt past that it would be much flatter flying but for target banging the energy isn't needed, huntings another story. It's only a matter of more clicks to compensate for the drop difference, just seems like a lot or work for really such little gain to 1000 yards, to 2500 that's another story.

The difference between 338 Win mag and 338 Lapua improved would, I'd think, be more than 200 fps. With a 30 inch barrel maybe 2600 vs 3000 fps??

Bolt face, ejector, magazine well... numerous things would need to be altered.

Your best bet is to run the thing or rechamber it to a 338 RUM.
The Lapua is based off of a Rigby case, not the rebated 404 Jeffery.
