Why i like my 260 rem so much now that there is no ammo over the 6.5 cm

The 300 Win Mag was the new kid on the block once. The belted magnum fad hasn't seemed to fade any, despite the belt not doing much these days.

Wonder if the 30-06 guys were grumpy back in '64 when the 300WM kicked in their teeth after the 308 stole their lunch money.

At least there were actual differences between those three cases. I still don't know what's different about the 260 Rem and 6.5 Creed, they're like twins whose parents are arguing which one is better.

Didn't Clinton stop all brass sales to civilians? If so I doubt that the current admin is going to allow brass or ammo sales to civilians.

I don't know, but I have a lot of Lake City brass that I have picked up over the years that out dates his presidency. Assuming Lake City makes it I would guess some brass will trickle out to us. I guess we will see.

And truth be told the Stoner system was better than the AR.

I have the same rifle all matching numbers. And I also have surplus ammo for it. A couple hundred brand new Lapua cases and SMK's waiting.

Grumpy is an understatement. I was in the Corps in 64 and there were STILL bar fights over 30-06 vs 308 with the M1 to M14 shift. Still a lot of "old corps" WWII veterans in the Corps then...they had a real emotional attachment to the M1....don't blame them.

Yeah. The surprise to me was when SOCOM did a head to head with the 260. I am a retired marine and was really surprised when they went for the CM. Thought there would be feeding issues with it.

I thought there would be feeding issues as well? I believe I purchased 260 brass from some of these tests on gun broker. The reason I say "I believe" is because I asked the person I bought the brass from if it was used in military trials. He said he could not tell me but that I was "on to something". The brass is the worst looking once fired brass I have ever purchased. The shoulder angle had two different degrees, over gassed extractor scrapes on the face, and two dings on the neck that I imagine happened at ejection. He said they were fired in a new semi auto, which was obvious.

I have not loaded any of it yet, might not be usable if the necks split where the dings are. It was 10 cents a piece, mostly Nexus brand brass. Seemed very high quality, very uniform and thicker metal in the necks than Federal and Remington brass.

A couple of 6.5 CM pieces got mixed in at cull and they showed the same markings and eccentricities as the 260 brass did exactly.

The only advantage the creedmoor has over the .260 Rem is that it's designed for longer, heavier bullets that have high BCs, and that twist rates in barrels are normally faster to stabilize these bullets. Within 350 yards the .260 Rem, due to more powder, out performs the CM. Beyond 600 yards the advantage goes to the CM.

In georgia now mostly deer and hogs . My littlest gun in Alaska I used was 338 win mag then I changed to 338-378 weatherby !

Escort is a poor analogy, I've always preferred the comparison between the old 5.4l 3V Triton in my 2010 F150 vs the 5.0l Coyote engine offered starting in 2011. On paper and in the real world they are very comparable, in the 09-16 trucks both even had the same 6speed transmission; one is just older tech, less efficient/not quite as good gas mileage, higher displacement (260 has larger case capacity) whereas the 5.0l is a new design, more powerfull etc.

Is the 5.4 a bad motor? No, but the 5.0 is better in nearly any measurable criteria. With a tune my 5.4l performs at or above the stock 5.0l even. Should I sell my 2010 to buy a newer 5.0 truck? No! but if you are starting from 0 and pricing is comparable then the newer engine is a better choice. I bought a 2010 with the 5.4 because comparable 2011s with a 5.0 were almost 20-30% more. I bought a Creedmoor because that same price difference isnt applicable.

The 260 isnt bad, the 6.5CM is just better.

NOPE. My analogy is different. To me, the .260 is the 5.0 and the Creed is the 5.4
Maybe not in age but in ultimate performance. You have your Ford truck engine facts dead on. I too owned both and while the 5.4 got it done, the 5.0 does it better. Better performance and better efficiency. The .260 performs better no doubt. Doesn't have to by much but it does. Another plus is, it can be Ackley'd. Gives it that extra 90+ fps. With RL26 in both the .260 and 6.5 CM, the win goes to the .260. The CM wins however in design and loaded ammunition. Both pretty big deals.

Was that guy from South GA ? I almost bought some of his brass too .I ended up buying buckets of 308 brass .It even have tons of rejects I can't get primers in the hornady brass at all and the federal brass with blur on the primer won't size and fit anything !

I have not bought any 260 rem brass I just use 308 which makes it cheaper to shoot and easier to find .I am finding tons of 6.5 cm brass at the range no one is reloading for it I guess .I told a exgi I would load his 6.5 cm for him if he wanted for free .The 260 and 6.5 are about the same .I hope to get a old ruger 77 tang ruger made into a 27 inch barrel 260 rem . Its funny how little difference only 200 fps between my 22 inch 260 and my 24 inch barrel 264 win mag .The 264 win mag is not worth the difference untill you get a 28 inch barrel or longer .
