I was in the military then (2004) and my best hunting buddy was stationed in Fairbanks for 12 years. Went to Valdez twice and shot three bears in Jack Bay just past The Narrows. Stayed in a state park cabin close to Shoup Bay glacier. Our "guide" was a local guy that was friends with my buddy. Took us out every day for a week in his 16 ft skiff. We paid for everything and he kept us on track. Been to Alaska 5 times, 20 years in the military had many benefits!
