Where are you sourcing/buying your action from?

I've decided I will be building my first custom rifle this year with the help of a machinist buddy of mine as needed. I'd like to do a mid weight 7WSM but due to lack of brass I think a 280AI slinging absolute hammers will suffice for deer and hopefully an elk at some point. I am torn between a nitrided Defiance Ruckus in the GA Hunter pattern, AnTiX or the Lone Peak Fuzion with alpine cut. I'm open to suggestions to other actions that have pre fit barrel options and have factory inletting from Manners or McMillan. I've searched around the internet but have found the items I'm interested in are out of stock. Where are you guys buying your actions? This is all new to me so please educate me. I'm open to suggestions, recommendations and constructive criticism of my plan. Thanks in advance.

Sweet thanks, that was about the only site I found that had some items coming in.

I have a bighorn tl3 and can't see any reason to not own more. Been an excellent action for me.

Hard to beat a tikka for a 7wsm or 280ai. Intermediate action length and tight tolerance

If you want a full custom action, then I typically call the manufacture and suck up the wait time. If you want more of a production style action and to avoid the wait, I look at the third party retailers like Redhawks, Brownells, Peircision, etc. The wait times there are usually shorter than ordering direct from the manufacture.

If I were you, keep it simple, rebarrel to a 6.8 Western, only cost is a barrel. If you want a 280ai build one off of a new action. Brux 6.8 Western barrel cost you $300, barrel machining $150 for a total under $500. There is no work at all except machining barrel and putting it on.

I just ordered my first custom action and went with a Bighorn Origin. I ordered from Front Range Precision and had it in my hands less than a week later. I just checked their website and they have long action Origins in stock if you are going with 280ai.

Building two right now with Terminus. Others I considered were Borden & BAT. Several good manufacturers out there.
