There is a 99% chance that My whitetail hunting spot this year will limit me to 500 yards. There is a slim chance I can hunt my buddy's farm were I can poke clean out to 1 mile. I am shooting a 300WSM this year for deer final load is 2828fps with a 210 grain berger hunting VLD. I ran the ballistics out and have tested it to 1000 with great results question is how much further can I push it?? here are all the specs:

210 grain VLD's @ 2828fps
Elevation 800 ft
average temp 25-35 degrees

It looks like you fall under 900# of energy at about 1100 yards. I guess it depends what energy level and impact velocities you are comfortable using.
Your velocity at 1100 is going to be down around 1450 or so. I am using the 208 Amax so everything does not match perfectly but these are close.

I've heard and read that the Bergers need at least 1800'/sec. to expand reliably, and that's bare minimum. 1900 -2000'/sec. gives us some cushion.

I don't know what range that computes with your load, but that is certainly what I personally would base my maximum distance on. It's 900 yds with my 6.5-284 at 4100' elevation before I drop below 1900'/sec.

Just ran the conditions under your bullet; at 800' and 30° temps, it drops below 1800'/sec once you're beyond 775 yds. You're good to 690 yds if you want to keep it 1900'/sec. or faster.

Altitude and temps make a big difference. You could shoot alot further at higher elevations.
