Im tossing around a couple calibers for a new build. I am trying to decide between a 25-06 or a 7mm08. Its going to be a hunting rifle and might shoot paper with it as well. Which caliber would you recommend and why? Thank you in advance

7-08 has better bullet BC and heavier bullets but the 25-06 is faster how about something in the middle like the 6.5-06 or 6.5-284 the best of both worlds you get speed with heavy high BC bullets

But if you stuck on the two then 7-08 for heavy high BC bullets

Nothing wrong with ether one but I prefer the 7/08 because of the bullet selection, it is a necked down 308 (That cant be bad) it is deadly for targets at 1000 yards, and deer size game out to
600+ yards and varmints as far as you can hit them. It also works in a short action and needs
only 22 to 24'' of barrel to perform.

What are you going to be hunting with it and what would be your max range?

Sorry I should have specified I will be hunting bean fields in sc and pastures in Florida. I plan on hunting primarily deer, hogs, and predators. I plan on using a remington 700 platform along with at most a 26-28'' hart barrel. I have not selected a stock yet but it most likely will be a manners

With a 26" barrel the 7-08 will serve you very well, though there is not a thing wrong with the 25-06. With hogs in the mix though definitely the 7-08 just for the more substantial bullets.

mix it together and get a 280 or better yet a 280 AI ;)

Already have a 280 ai. Its a little heavy to carry rifle alone weighs 17 lbs with a 28'' barrel. I guess I could rebarrel it and make it a hunting rifle but I sure do like shooting paper with it

I just saw that you were already looking at a long action with the 25-06 and the other option being a short action in 7mm so I figured the 280 would better option than the two you had. So build a lighter 280 ;) If going to a short action Im really tempted to build a 6mm AI or a 260 as my mountain gun for deer and black bear
