TV shows can't drop animals?

i don't have any of the hunting shows on my TV as I don't have cable or satellite, but I'm on a trip and watching these tree stand whitetail shows and nobody is dropping these deer. They must be using something different than me (Berger's) cause they shoot them at 75-200 yds and they run 300 or more yards and leave them over night many times! What am I missing here? It's just a general observation but it seems like on the EOL show, best of the west and Gunwerks shows they mostly drop. It's pretty crazy the difference.

My personal thoughts on this, is that 1) not every animal will react the same way every time you pull the trigger. And 2) most of the so-called "professionals" are not the greatest shots...But they look good on TV, and are personable, and can sell you all the bullcrap hunting stuff you'll never need. So they are there to mainly sell you on stupid random hunting products, more-so than they are there to shoot animals that have been let out of cages or chip-monitored by guides for years.

I've been hunting my whole life, but personally, I'm not a fan of hunting shows anymore. It used to be mostly hunting back in the day, but now-days they're just one giant infomercial trying to get you to buy crap that they get kick-backs from.

I've used every bullet I can think of game , berger, nosler ,Barnes and everything I've shot has died very quick !! I can't pick a better bullet then the other because all shots have been under different conditions , ranges , but animals have died. A kill is what you make of it. Shot placement is key.

Yeah I don't watch very many whitetail shows anymore with the exception of "Closing the Distance". They show misses and Pastor Jmark always had some good stuff at the end of the show. Great Christian hunting show.

The one show I watch every single episode of is "Fresh Tracks" with Randy Newburg. All his shows are on public land and has REAL footage. They show the misses or bad shots and there are episodes where they don't harvest an animal. Randy always shares some great info on the show and is not trying to sell you on the so called latest and greatest gear.

I can't agree more. some of the shows are just talking heads, doesn't seem most of them can hunt unless they're in a **** box blind or tree stand. I do enjoy the older guys, Shockey, Miranda and the sort. They made their name back before any of the real modern stuff and still do a good job of real hunting. Any time a treestand hunter says he's been huntin' 'em hard all week, I just laugh and change the channel. they don't know what real hard hunting is.

SO many people flock to long range shows thinking they can go by a gun and huskemaw and go kill animals at long range. You only see the long range kills on those shows , you never see the misses ...

The accomplished long range hunters have far fewer wounds and misses than the vast majority of hunters who buy a rifle, have the the clerk bore sight it, and never verify it. One day my younger brother who was about sixty-five at the time, and never went hunting, is a prime example. One day I was standing with him and another guy. My brother said,
"Jesus is coming back I need a .30-06."
"What!? Are you going to shoot Him?" the other guy asked.
"No. I've never been hunting and want to do it at least once," he answered.
"Well then," I chimed in, "you sure don't need a .30-06. A .270 or .25-06 will get the job done for you with less recoil."
We found a Savage .270 with a Simmons 3-9X with soft case for $300 out the door. He was not even going to sight it in. I sighted it in at 100 yards from a bench rest and had him fire a few times. Could he hit anything? Your guess is as good as mine.

I am convinced most new hunters are just like him. Or maybe worse since they don't have someone to sight in their rifle. Maybe we can leave off the "most new" and still be correct.

Western Hunter and Jim Shockey are two that are worth watching.

I listen to the meat eater podcast, but haven't caught the show. He seems pretty legit.

Totally agree with pretty much everything you all have said. I don't watch cable but watch meateater and Randy newberg on YouTube and Netflix. Other than those that's about it. I have just been in a hotel for a few days and am amazed at how poor the shot placement has been and how far these animals run.

My favorite shows are the episodes where a group of guys get together at some fancy south Texas hunting resort, stuff their faces with BBQ and beer, play some grab *** for half the show before heading out in a Ford King Ranch power stroke diesel to a deer stand dressed in full camo with a 338 lapua to shoot a whitetail at 100 yards off bait.

Cracks me up

In all seriousness, I do like shows like Meat Eater, Western Hunter, Shockeys Uncharted, Fresh Tracks, Solo Hunter where its a realistic hunt in beautiful county. I really respect some of those hunts Shockey does in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan to just name a couple. Touph guy.

I remember seeing a show called Jimmy Big Time. Now it's how I see all whitetail hunting shows from the south. If nobody knows what I'm talking about, please look it up. Also did see Aaron Davidson miscue a wind call at like 580 (?) on LRP
