I have a rifle that i believe the factory thread pattern is 9/16-28. I am wondering if a muzzle brake that is threaded to fit 9/16-24 will work on my gun? Will i jusst need more spacers, or am I going to have to get my barrel threaded to work?

It will not work. Your choices would be to either find a brake manufacturer with the correct thread or to have your barrel shortened and re-threaded to 9/16 x 24

there is 24 threads per inch or 28 threads per inch.
they are not the same, one is a finer thread pitch.

Like others have noted; the 24 or 28 is not the length of the threads on the muzzle brake so spacers will not help. It is the TPI (threads per inch).

Warning! This thread is more than 10 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
