The 25 sst...up and running

Man that's too bad he busted the drop off! I'd give just about anything for a good deer of just about any species with a drop. My dad and a couple buddies have shot coues bucks with them but I can't ever seem to find one for myself... Do you get more than one tag a year where you are or are you done deer hunting for the year now?

I rarely see drop tine bucks where I'm at, would have been nice if it was still there but I'm happy regardless. I hunt in 2 different counties so I can shoot 1 more buck, but the whitetail aren't as good in the neighboring county. We'll see what happens after X mas. Il be going out for another 5-6 days. Regular season goes until Jan 5th. Then Special late season until Jan 19th. I'm sure a Coues with a nice drop is something rare, I've never even seen any pics of one.

Did a pressure test with the Nosler 100gr BT's today.

26" bbl
1&7.25"
59*
ADG brass
Fed 210
COAL 2.726" +.010"

N570

61 3261
63 3415 C
64 3465 C
65 3518 C out of room pushing bullet out.

Never ran into pressure with 570 but not the velocity's I was looking for

H-1000

62 3533
62.5 3551
63 3584
63.5 3617 C
64 3652 C
64.5 3673 C very faint EM
65 3703 C faint EM
65.5 3720 C EM
66 3750 C EM slight bolt lift, out of room bullet pushing out.

Much better performance from H-1000 and a little higher velocity's than I was expecting. No bullets on paper today but after I see that the bullets are holding together Ill look for a load around 3500-3600. Should be h$ll on coyotes.

SWEET! thats geettin right down the road!

I'll try n565 when I get a chance, I keep forgetting that I have some.

Anyone ever shot deer at high speeds, with the Nosler bt out of a 257WBY or STW or the 6.5 and .277 versions even? Mainly wanted to use this bullet for predator hunting with a 300 yd zero so I could hold dead on up to 350 yards but just curious how it does on bigger game up close.

I'm sure RL26 RL23 would make some smoking fast velocity as well. I Chris Davis building mine as we speak: Curtis axiom lite, proof sendero 1:7.5, jcs composites tactical stock, curtis lo pro dbm, triggertech diamond flat shoe, uncertain on brake at this point. I'm pretty excited about it, already have brass and dies from Richard.

That's going to be a nice rifle!

I have some RL-26, I'm sure it and 23 will give the best velocity's. Blew my mind 2 weeks ago when I walked in the gun shop and they had a ton of 8pounders in rl-26.
Still want to try some hammer bullets as well.

Il be looking forward to seeing how your proof does, I really like their carbon barrels and wish they offered them in shorter lengths with the 7.5 twist.

I know hells canyon will make a 25 cal 7.5 twist carbon in any length you want. Benchmark makes a nice liner for them.

Tag...

So what is the parent case of this 25 SST if I may ask...

That's one awesome cartridge for predators to the thick skins,,, this is why I had a 6.5/06 built this summer...

Good for Coyotes on up to Elk and Moose with everything in-between.

404 Jeffery became the Rem ultra mags, became rem short ultra mags, became Sherman short, tactical and max, all in that chronological order.

Has anyone shot the 92gr hammer hunter or the 103gr hammers hunter in this? I'm Curious what kinda velocity you would get with a 26" barrel

I had a chance to test N565 yesterday with the 100gr Nosler BT.

I was glad to see these bullets hold together with my twist and almost 900 rounds through the barrel. With the exit twist at 7.12" running 3700fps they are turning 374,157 RPM.

Found a mild load with H-1000 and the 100gr Nosler BT's. When shooting the rifle was zeroed for the 131gr ACE at 100yds.

Also went pig hunting and got a double with the 131ACE's at 150 yards for both. Had the tips opened up with a smaller bit this time and they worked great. Both got hit in the lungs 1 dropped the other ran 10 yards and dropped. Both had close to 1" exits with a lot of blood loss. I was glad to see the pigs go down that quick but they were only 100 pounders.

Impact velocity 2940 FPS
Impact energy 1440 ft-lbs
