Id say 264 win mag or 7 stw. If it doesnt have to be a screamer id say 284 win or Shehane. But thats changing the bolt face too. And put a muzzle brake on it. Lighter recoil is nice no matter what you're shooting.

They are shooting 1200 yards normal PRS top matches, Just exactly what does he consider LR?

I was referring to the "high speed" part. With the front runners s being 257 Weatherby, 264 Win Mag., and 7 STW It's my impression that they're after something really flat. I liked your article, just didn't think it was applicable here.
 
I'll go the other way since you seem to be open to weatherby and I'm a big fan of 6mm.

Flat, fast, no recoil zaps deer & antelope like lightning from Zeus's trident no need for a brake.
Less powder than a true magnum
Brass last longest of all weatherby cartridges except 300.
