Looking for some help concerning excessive play in bolt. I want to replace my bolt, and go with a larger diameter bolt to take up some play. What size bolt in diameter would I need? I plan on purchasing a complete bolt from ptg , and sending it to my gunsmith to fit. Would a 7.020 be large enough to take up all the slack? I'm sure he will have to open up the raceway, but I'm ok with that as long as it fits tighter

By buying a bolt you know that you are going to have twice as much money into this action as it is worth. You can buy a custom action and it will always be worth what you paid for it and in a few years more.

A 700 bolt will tighten up to nice .003" to .004" clearance just by Cerakoting it inside and out. Any tighter and depending the terrain you hunt, dust can stop it dead while your game trots off.

BTW, no Rem 700 should ever need anything bigger than .700" to bring the tolerances as low as you desire. To get that big it will need reamed.

There is so much range in Remington actions you need to let the smith tell you what size to order based on his race way reamer or by bushing size. I've seen a .003 difference just on the action I worked on this week!

The rifle was a 300 Win Mag Sendero. Sent if off and had the action blue printer, and a brux barrel installed. Rifle was bought for a Christmas present from my wife so I don't mind putting more money in it.

The new bolt should have been used when installing the new barrel. Installing it now may mean the head space has to be re-qualified. Let your 'gunsmith' gauge the receiver, so a bolt of the proper diameter gets ordered.
