2 questions concerning the 7 SS:
1) what is the min/max case length?
2) Anyone who runs a 180 class bullet w/ H1000 & ADG brass: can you tell me what you found your max charge to be? Ive only been able to find 2 individuals who shoot this combo - one runs at 60.5, the other at 62gr. I just need to find out how high to run my ladder. I dont want to go under as I can only get to the range 1x/week, but I dont want to go too high as every case that gets a bullet pulled gets relegated to the "fouler" pile as neck tension isnt the same on the 2nd seating.

have 2 different 25sst up and running
both have a bto of 2.141
131 BJ
210m
61.3 and 61.8 grains of n565
3250 and 3265
26 inch bartlein barrels with tikka actions
one has krg stock and other has McMillian game hunter

my 7.5 twist is running 61.7 grains of n565 at 3040 with an es of 3 and sd of 1 when the stars align.

For me, I loaded to 62.8gr without any heavy bolt lift but with the COAL in my short action chamber, I could hear powder crunching at 61.6gr H1000 with a 180gr ELD-m. Slighted amount of freedom to shake powder at 61.4gr. I had a node below compressed at 60/60.2 so I picked 60.1grs. This load has settled in at 2843fps suppressed but remains very stable.

Wow, all fantastic info, thanks a lot! You have a nearly identical setup to me. LRI did my chamberings, so I have a short throat, so I have no issue with COAL, but I did the Berger VLD seating test and they liked .090" jump. So that bullet is stuffed pretty good.

I plan to develops long range steel load with 195s but they may need single fed - this load is for a mulie/pronghorn hunt in 2 weeks

So per Berger's advice, I found the rough seating depth first (which ended up being .090" jump). Since I have a short freebore chamber, the .090" ended up at a COAL of ~2.805. As you can imagine, that put the bullet in the powder column more than I would prefer. I ran tests from 58-62.4gr. I started compressing loads at 61.2, so moved to using a drop tube. These were some of the most consistent loads ive ever tested and it was crazy accurate as well (of the 12 different loads, 10 had an ES of 17 or less, and 6 had an ES in the single digits.) But the issue is they are incredibly slow - my 62.4gr load had an ES of 8, but is only moving at 2835 fps.
My question is; could the long jump be leading to lower pressure i.e. lower velocity? Or is my chrono lying to me? Slow barrel?

I have a hunt next week, so this will be the load I run with for this hunt, but I do plan to rework it later this fall if I can. I may need to try a new bullet thats less jump sensitive (175gr berger). Just looking for some opinions on why its so slow.

Specs:
ADG Headstamped Brass
180gr Berger VLD Hunting
Federal 210M
H1000
.090" Jump (2.0425 CBTO / ~2.805" COAL)

Jumping the bullets definitely leads to less pressure then touching the lands. I'm curious myself as to whether the pressure continues to drop as the jump increases. My guess is that it does.

I'd run a new ladder test, at the new seating depth to confirm.

I have a similar situation in another cartridge and I'm hoping I can gain some speed back by increasing the charge weight. But I have a bit of room in the case currently, so that should help.

What load data are you guys using for fireforming brass. I would like to do the CoW method with a false shoulder, but would also entertain using a loaded round. This would be for a 6.5 Sherman LA.

Will this combo still work in a short Accurate Mag DBM 2.96" box? What freebore are you running/OTL for this combo?
I believe Rich has a few different freebore options for his 6.5ss and 6.5sst. This info will help me chose which one will work best in my SA DBM box.... Thanks
