I have a project rifle I want to build on a bolt action and I'm thinking the 788 may be a good donor action - but I'm up to other action manufacturers as well. I'm a .44 caliber fan and have several guns in 44 Rem Mag, 445 Super Mag and 444 Marlin. I came across a thread of a 44x1.8 cartridge and it has caught my interest. It is based off the '06 brass family and is basically a rimless shortened 444 Marlin, this cartridge also needs to headspace off the case mouth. I'm in the process of modifying a set of reloading dies and then send a few off to Manson to cut a chamber reamer. Would it be possible to use the Rem 788 to build this rifle and have it feed and function properly, or do you have another recommendation? Thank you in advance for thoughts.
