rem thread for base?

i have had a custom made up on a 700 stainless and have found the threads that attach the base are poorly done from the factory and need a clean up.
what is the factory thread? as im planning on buying a tapp and cleaning them out myself.

Standard thread for scope mounts on most factory rifles is #6-48. Most custom actions or commerical actions that are used for a custom build are up-graded to #8-40.

you can also go with 10-32. Either way IMHO I wouldn't keep them the same size and just try to clean them up...may not be enough meat left in the threads. Just my 2 cents.
