Redding Competion Bullet Seater 'SET UP'

Received a 'Redding Competion Bullet Seater' with no instructions in the box.

What's the best way in setting the seater in the press ?

How far do you back off away from the shell holder when in full ram position ?

Any comments would be very much appreciated.

I'll bet that a call to Redding would produce complete instructions.

I had the same problem and downloaded the instructions from their website.

Redding has revised their website, and I don't see the obvious way to download instructions from it. However, you can e-mail them at

Redding Reloading Equipment: reloading equipment for rifles, handguns, pistols, revolvers and SAECO bullet casting equipment

and they will respond with a link.

Usually, backing the die off of the shellholder far enough that the die is not crimping is sufficient.

Set the Redding up like any other seater die.

Unscrew the seater stem a good bit first.

Run an empty case full up with the ram.

Screw the die down until it contacts the case, then screw it back up a quarter turn and lock the ring.

Seat a bullet on the case and run it fully up. Check the OAL and adjust the seater stem to get what you want the OAL to be.
