Pilates

When I was at the gym a couple of the younger guys joined the Pilates class because, "That is where all the hot chicks are at." Almost killed them. They were so sore they couldn't move and reported Pilates were not designed for men. Apparently the instructor had to modify some of the positions because men don't bend as well. They were a mess.🙄

To be fair, anyone who's out of shape is going to be sore after Pilates AND younger guys even that go to the gym might have a time with it if you don't train any stability, core, isometrics, and or have bad posture.

That's actually a big recipe for injuries while lifting. Sometimes all it takes is a combination between ego lifting, which creates bad technique, on body part that has poor stability.

It's days later, and I'm still sore. Especially abs. and even my hips. I'm liking it, no impact, no ripping shoulders at the gym.

Pilates is excellent for a lot of stuff. I went with my girlfriend years ago (took an embarrassingly long time to convince me to do it), but I've been at it ever since. Great mobility, stability, injury prevention stuff. You won't get huge, but after those initial "holy crap everything hurts" sessions, you'll see improvements in all sorts of weird functional movements. I lift 4x/week and do pilates 1x/week now.

Pilates was designed to treat soldiers, wounded in battle, who needed to begin exercising while still in a hospital bed. It's core focused and a great part of any fitness regimen and perfect for those beginning to get back into condition. Glad you're getting stronger!

I had no idea this was the history of the practice. That's cool as hell.

Saw a Zumba class at my gym, a lot of pretty ladies, but I'd be like Fred Sanford after 10 minutes... " it's the Big One!" Look like it would kill yah.

always thought pilates was for women
Yep, that's exactly what kept me from trying it for so long. Turns out, I kinda love it. Definitely mostly women in the classes, but you won't catch me complaining.

My daughter forced me to go to Pilates. Holy cow. Every muscle in my body hurts today. Not cardio, but sheess, I am sore.
I bit late on the game, but when my sons were doing high school and club competitive swimming, they were putting in four hours in practice - two hours before and after school. They went to a swim camp and got humbled in Pilates. I honestly believe they survived it because the Pilates instructor was pretty hot and they were in the front row. 😍

I heard that it strengthen the bones and joint. How different do you feel before started pilates and after?
