Old Hand Reloading Tool

My son was given this reloading tool. He thinks he found what it is. Does anyone know anything about this? He is just thinking about putting it in a frame or on the mantle.

Looks like a 32 colt Winchester and marlin bullet mold. Cool piece of history

At one time Winchester and Marlin made rifles chambered for 32 Long Colt. Many Colt revolvers were also chambered for that round. The 32 Short and Long Colt is now obsolete, the heel style bullet was quickly replaced by the inside lubricated style like the 32 S&W used. Be sure if you try to buy a firearm chambered for that round you buy the right one. 32 Colt was never very popular before it went obsolete.

Its an Ideal brand reloading tool that also has a bullet mold in the front. Made to handle .32 Colt. Manufactured in the later part of the 1800's. Does have some collectors value but not as much as one that is stamped Winchester or Colt. Kind of a nice piece to have but not worth $300 plus to my knowledge.

What's that stub off the side for?

By stub on the side I take it to mean the part of the handle thats use to size the case and also seat the bullet if my memory doesn't deceive me. Its been a few years since i have used one myself.

I love how all the reloading tools could be used next to a camp fire and fit into a pouch. You could crank out a bunch of cartridges while your horses were resting. Now most of us have a lab to reload..

The reloading instructor with our IFW class used the old style handheld Lee unit. I remember coming across one in my Dad's barn growing up wonder what the hell it was. This thing is neat, great for someone who shoots this cartridge. I would imagine it could be refurbished to prevent further oxidation and given a good coat of Cosmoline and out back into use.
