Nosler 300 Win Mag brass, very unimpressed!!!!!

Well I received my box of replacement brass from Nosler today. I don't see any bad case heads but the neck thickness still varies from .009" to .0175". Most are .0125" to .015".

Throw them away or use them for loading friend's rifles?

Perhaps I will run them through a Lee Collet tomorrow night and see if that evens the necks out a little.

These were supposed to be checked before they sent them out to me. Still very disappointed!

I bought five 50 count bags of Nosler "second" 7mm Rem Mag brass. So far, I've once fired 2 bags. I've been fortunate as the 168 VLDs, 150 Btips, and 140 TTSX bullets have shot very well.

No chambering problems. What I did notice was a difference in trim length. Didn't seem to affect my groups much.

Lucky?

Noslers response:

We have become aware of the problem and it is being corrected.
Thank you for the heads up.

Message: I am a licensed Gunsmith and Licensed Ammunition
Manufacture. Recently I bought a Box of 50 pieces of Nosler 300 Win
Mag brass from MidwayUSA to load for a customer who I built a custom
rifle. I checked and trimmed the brass for OAL length and neck
chamfer. I loaded the brass to SAAMI spec COL 3.304\". All fifty
originally inspected with a Wilson case gauge, appeared within SAAMI
specs. A second closer inspection revealed that 3 case were
headspacing off the shoulder and not the belt (.007 excessiove lenght
in the case head to shoulder measurment). There also was a .0015
differance in the measurment between the case head and the front of
the belt. .2175 and .2185 still under the SAAMI .220 spec. The
problem was those three cases that were about .007 to long in the
shoulder. I pulled the loaded cases and resized them bumping the
shoulder back to within SAAMI specs and retrimmed the necks. I
thought you however should know about these three cases. That
reflects a 6% failure to pass inspection and/or feed in a rifle. I
will check and see if I still have the original box so that I can get
the lot numbers. You may be able to get this information from
MidwayUSA. Having paid the price I did for this brass, I was somewhat
disapointed. I had heard a lot of good things about Nosler Brass. I
hope you can resolve these issues so others want have any problems
loading your brass.

Well, I'm going to send the replacement box back to Nosler. I just checked 10 of them but all of those brass had a thin side and a thick side. The thin sides varied from .009" to .0115" and the thick side varied from .015" to .017". The worst case went from .009" to .017" which was the thinnest and the thickest on the same case!

If they don't make it right then they can keep them. What really chaps my *** besides all the trouble of going to the UPS store and filling out forms for shipping is that Nosler told me that the replacement box would be checked before they shipped them to me.

Makes you wonder if they are getting these things made in China.

Thought i would share with you MidwayUSAs response:

Subject: Nosler 300 Winchester Magnum Brass

Recently I bought some Nosler 300 Winchester brass from MidwayUSA. I
found 6% were out of SAAMI spec by .007" (too long from case head to
shoulder). I contacted Nosler directly and they acknowledged, "they had
a problem and were working on it". Personally after paying a premium
price for their product they sure came up with a lame reply. This was
the first time I have bought Nosler brass and will be the last. Thought
you should know as others may encounter the same problem.

I am another shooter that won't buy another box of nosler brass.Bought three boxes of 50 each and over half, had neck variance from .003-.005. I would expect that from bulk brass not from high dollar brass,gun)FIN72FAN
