looking to scope my new 243 i built to shoot mostly prone and off a bench for prairie dog and coyote I have a 4.5-30 bushnell on a different gun now so im familiar with that brand but looking to spend up to $2000 for good glass I want to go for the 1000 yard club in the VHA hopefully this year. any recomendations would be great.

If you have 2k to spend on optics, you can get a MUCH better optic than the vortex. As you already know, for a 1k yd prairie rat you're going to need some pretty stout magnification. I'm thinking start with scope lines that offer 25x magnification as a minimum....

For your budget & needs, I keep coming back to the NightForce NXS 8-32 or 12-42.... just keep in mind, as you go up in magnification, you go down in elevation travel. The 8-32 has ~65moa of adjustment, so the 12-42 is only rated at 45moa which is almost useless IMHO.

Bang for the buck, NightForce is still where it's at. You could find a used USO 5-25 for a little more $$$

Agreed, but if you not determined to spend your entire budget the PST is adequate. Additionally, heard a lot of good things about Sightron 8-32x56 SIII 30mm Riflescope
Stock # - SIIISS832X56LRTDTDT
Matte
1/8 Target Dot
30mm
Side Focus
1/8 MOA Target Knobs

At just under 1k lots of bang here too. But, as stated above, hard to beat a Nightforce. Guess I'm just not up to spending 2k on woodchucks, Pdogs & coyotes.

I have the SIII 8-32x56 mil dot on a savage 111 bth .308 and I absolutely love it, can't complain about the price either!!! I have 904.00 invested in scope, burris base, and burris Sig rings!!

well went a little different route stole the bushnell 4.5 -30 off the 338 edge and put it on the 243 and will put a new Nightforce nxs 5.5x22 on the 338 edge i thought that would be a better way to go.
