Well, as I stated in my intro to this site, Nate has been trying to get me to compete with him for quite some time and I finally decided to give it a try. Sat May 2nd was the day. Nate and I were up until 3 A.M finishing up things we should have had ready two days prior J I needed a shooting mat so I finished that at midnight and then started trickling over 200 rounds of ammo while Nate made a bi-pod for his rifle. We loaded everything up in the truck and hit the hay for a couple hours of sleep. We were up early and on our way. I went with hopes that I would at least be able to hit the target and to have lots of fun. It was a cold day with grueling 12-16 mph very gusty wind conditions (typical for North Dakota. The wind only stops here long enough to change directions)
If you weren't on your mat, it would likely blow away. I never really kept track of the score, except I heard Nate say that I tied on the first relay, but the other shooter took the lead as he had more X's than I. After the second relay, Toby
came up to Nate and I and said I had won the second relay! I was pleasantly surprised but, still didn't think I would place very high after all there were 11 other guys shooting too.
I felt no pressure as I had no idea where I was as far as score goes. I am not a very competitive person by nature and don't strive to beat people in events. however, I am always striving to do better than I did the last time, anyway when the match was over and they tallied up the scores I was shocked to have made it to first place (as you can see by the permagrin in the pix) They told me I should point to my score and my hubby's score right below. I was one point below the match winner, which also shocked me as I felt I wasn't shooting very well due to the wind conditions; I guess it was tough for everyone else as well. I was shooting Nate's (now mine:D) 6x47 Lapua, prone, off a bi-pod, with 41gr. of 4350 and 105 Berger's. I am totally hooked! And can't wait for the next match.
It is kind of boring watching an "F" class shoot. but it is really exciting being a participant. I enjoyed all aspects of it from shooting to scoring to running the targets in the pits.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!! It is a great sport and I hope you catch the excitement too.

The video clip is to give you an idea of the wind we were dealing with. Nathan's mat was blown into a heap next to mine and you can also see the flag down by the targets. I don't think it laid down the whole day. I felt wind whipped with grit stuck to my face.

Great shooting. Can't wait to see what happens when your "competitive side" comes out. :)

Kinda whooped 'ol Nate huh? Don't beat him too bad or he might get a complex.

You should ask for some Peltor ear muffs for Mother's Day. They get in the way a little when you get low on the stock but are really nice for hunting as well as competing when you need to be able to hear well.

Thanks guys!

It really was a blast and I can't imagine not liking it now, that I finally tried it. it was a little intimidating at first trying to remember all the steps and procedures, but I caught on fast andit was all fun from there on out.
Most of my success came from having good equipment, good optics and of course a good teacher:D ( Nate's been throwing around the idea of putting on some kind of shooting classes for in this area and customers that want to make the trip to ND to advance their shooting skills)

Toby, You have the biggest heart! How sweet of you to relinquish your spot at the top, just for me:D I would love to see Julie at the June match!!

*Prairie Princess*,

Big congratulations to you both. Nate is a good guy the best I have been able to discern, and deserves a good wife. Even if he gets whipped :D from time to time. I bet he's proud and happy for you!

Nice shooting Elizabeth,

I told you it always helps to load your husbands ammunition!
