Modify custom action ?

I have a Defiance Deviant action that has the pic rail integral to the action. The most forward lug on the rail needs to be removed to accommodate the scope bell which is just touching it.

Can I have a gunsmith mill this lug off?

Will filing an angle that matches the scope bell give enough clearance? If so, remove the barrel 1st, then take your time and do a nice job. Leave the bottom halves of the rings on so you can check your work with the scope.

Looks like a nice build you got there. Those Schmidt's sure have a short mounting surface. Once I had a guy who was willing to trade me a really nice new Schmidt for a NF 4-16x50 atacr that I was trying to sell. It would have been a better scope for the 338 Lapua improved that I was building but the available spacing was too short for my Defiance GA Hunter action.

I tried taller rings but they only created a check weld issue. If I moved the scope forward a bit, it would adversely affect proper eye relief.

I've had this issue on another rifle, however, it had a removeable pic rail. I merely ground off the front lug at an angle and everything worked out fine.

I also done exactly that with a pic rail myself but if I were to go at it on a custom action with an integrated rail I'd take it to the Mill.

If this is the only scope you have or want to use for your action, I say go for it. I have the Anti-X, and one of the available scopes I have has the same issue as yours, but I have other scopes that work for my intended purpose. Good luck!
