So I was watching History's Mountain Men last night (season5 episode 15). For starters, let me say that I have absolute respect for a man who shakes mountain lions outta trees bare handed. Now having owned Rem 700's all my life, I saw something new. Rich held the floor plate, spring and follower out of the way and loaded his magazine from the bottom. Different. Guess it might work if you started on correct side and slid cartridges back. Does anybody here do this or have seen this approach?

I've never seen Rich use a 700, he usually carries a Ruger #1. I'll have to see that episode.

Sounds like his rifle has been fitted with an "In Line" magazine, they have to be loaded that way. I've had two rifles so fitted in the past, an early 300WSM and a 7mm RUM. I never worried about them being slow to reload as I seldom ( can't remember the last time even) use over two rounds on game.

I saw that last night, too. I've always and will always load from the top, that way I can be sure they're seated up against the back wall of the magazine box.

No, it was a regular 700 VSF 26" barrel (not sure of the caliber/cartride, but looked like a 7mm-08 or .308 judging by bore diameter), he was just loading it upside down. LOL
