If you had to have only three?

Nope, none of those old rounds can be let down or ignored, the .30-06 is going to be 109yrs old and is still one of the most popular cartridges around. The .270 emerged in 1925 and also remains one of the top sellers, seems like shells come and go, but the ol' tried and true ones stand their ground.
+1!!!

Varmints- 223
Deer-280 Remington
Elk-300 Win Mag

I have all 3, and honestly, the 280 is a do-all cartridge. I prefer the KISS method.

There will always be reloading components readily available for these cartridges, none are outstanding in their certain range of power compared to all of the fancy wildcat cartridges available today, but they sure do lay down alot of animals year after year.

Varmints 223- AR platform with med heavy barrel for targets and varmints to 500 yards
Med game. 6.5-284 - go to rifle for deer/antelope to 1000 yards and varmints 500-1000+
Large Game. 300WM- large game and targets at ELR

22250 a 3006 and a 338. If I planned someday to go to Africa id swap the last one for a 416 rem or at least a 375 but that isn't going to happen with me anymore.

If you were limited to three centerfire rifles, one for varmits, one for medium size big game and one for the larger stuff, what would they be? My choices would be a 223rem, 25-06, and a 338 Win Mag.

"Varmints" - 223 in an AR platform
"Med. Size big game" - 7mm Rem Mag (for standardized chamberings) 7mm/300 Win for wildcat

"Larger Stuff" - 338 RUM/338 Lapua (for standardized chamberings) 338 SnipeTac or Kirby Allen's 338 Raptor if he can get some brass!

Since "Dangerous Game" wasn't included those are my choices. If DG is added I'd have to increase to 4 choices and a 375 Ruger would be it.
