Looking for info on h1000 and 215 Bergers. Has anyone else had issues with accuracy. Rifle is a r700 with a bartlein barrel. I ran 74-77 gr. With cci250. Best group was where to be expected 77 gr shot around .8 moa. Other groups where 1.25-1.75. I shot some h4831sc and it shot a .6" 4 shot group at 72 gr. This was just a random load. Im looking for others that have experienced less then optimal accuracy with H1000. What powder did you turn too? I'm afraid H4831sc might just not get the velocity I want. Also this is a hunting rifle so temp stability is fairly important. One other question. This particular jug of h1000 had been in my garage for about a year heating up and cooling down. Not sure if it's worth trying a fresh lot of powder. Any insight would be great.

I had problems getting h1000 to group like I wanted, I would pursue the h4831 if it's giving you good accuracy. What's the Es and Sd?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to pursue that load besides a 4 shot group. I'm waiting for 200 Berger's to show up at my door. I can never find them locally! Weird thing is my last barrel wouldn't shoot h1000 but shop h4831 well. Is that the powder you used??

I just did a load work up on my hunting rig with H1000 and it did great with the 215s. I settled on a load right at 76 gr or in that ball park and it was one ragged hole. I think you just need to try some new powder. Out of 10, 5 shot groups from 75 thru 77gr 6 of them were 1/2 moa or better with three of those at 1/4 to 3/8. This was at .015 off lands.

No, I actually went with IMR 4350 because I had ten pounds of it. I can't remember my velocity, but it was good enough. I think it was around 2900fps. Half moa with very low Es and Sd numbers. It's been a couple years. My lapua loves h1000 so I didn't lose any sleep over it.
I recently been messing with H4831 in other cartridges, and I really like it. I wish I would have tried it in my win mag before I sold it.

Both powders are temp stable. I've seen pressure spikes with temp stable powders left in garages here in Az @ 120-130 in the summer. Also try different primers or play with seating. A friend's 300WM shoots the 210 VLDH a great deal more accurately than the 215 proving not all rifles like the same load. Assuming your Bartlein is a 1:10 it should shoot both.

I had very similar results with H1000 and H4831. H1000 just wouldn't work for me no matter what charge, primer or jump I tried. I've shot 71.8 H4831 out of my 26" .300 Win Mag consistently between 6" and 8" groups at 1000 yards in decent to average conditions. My velocities averaged 2863 with ES below 20 and single digit SD's. Like you, I wanted more velocity, so I worked up RL26 and am still tinkering with that load with similar results but at 3021fps average. I've read lots of information here about temp stability and RL26, but I haven't seen an issue with what I consider common sense. I've shot RL26 in 85-90 degree heat without issue. I generally keep ammo in the shade, and don't let live ammo sit in a hot chamber either.

H1000 has been my go to powder for the 300 WM with the 215 Gr Berger as well. I was using 75.5 Gr of H1000 and getting right at 2900 fps with a 24" barrel and getting groups like the picture above at 100 yards but had a problem with my rifle and had to send it to Gre-Tan to get the firing pin and spring replaced as well as bushed. Now it shoots in the 2850 fps range with 75.5 gr with a big drop in accuracy so I am going to up the powder charge to get it back to the 2900 FPS range and hopefully won't be over pressured and get back to that accuracy node.

I would experiment with seating depth. I just worked up a load with 175 Berger Elite Hunters, with the Hybrid ogive, in my .284 and found 0.050 to shoot far better than 0.015, 0.030, and 0.040 off. I just did a rough seating depth test and 0.050 shrunk my groups from 1" down to 3/8". I'm sure it could even shoot better with further fine tuning of the seat length, but I'm happy where it's at. I would try those 215s from 0.010 off to 0.060 off and see what works for you. Just load 3 each in 0.010 steps in seat length and see what shoots best. If your groups still aren't sub 1/2 MOA, then take the best group and move the bullet in or out a few thousandths at a time and see if that improves things.

Yeah the barrel is a 9 twist. Throated for 215's. I'll continue to play with h4831sc. Wanna try rl26 but can't find My in the Boise area

I would look for some IMR 7977 and RL23. The 7977 is nearly identical to H1000 in burn rate and RL23 is slightly slower burning that H4831 and gives slightly more velocity as well.
